Strict visa policy has penalised 'good people' & damaged France’s reputation, says President Macron
Emmanuel Macron, as per a report by local media house Le Point. «It has damaged our reputation and image without significantly improving our effectiveness,» he admitted. However, he added, «That doesn't mean we should move toward laxity. We must maintain a strict policy, but one that allows us to intelligently condition and simplify our visa policy.» The acknowledgement of failure stems from the report by Paul Hermelin, submitted to the Ministers of the Interior and Foreign Affairs in April 2023, says Le Point.

Tech sector's energy transition draws attention at Vegas show
Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has not historically paid much attention to energy companies. But there were signs of a shift at this year's Las Vegas event, as the tech sector begins to confront its substantial energy needs, which are certain to grow as cloud computing and artificial intelligence advance. «If you'd asked me to do CES five years ago, I wouldn't necessarily have seen the point,» said Sebastien Fiedorow, chief executive of the French start-up Aerleum, which manufactures synthetic fuel from carbon dioxide (C02).

These are the most powerful passports in the world; where's the U.S, here's the full list
Henley Passport Index of the year 2025 has crowned Singapore as the most powerful passport of the world while granting its citizens visa free access to 195 out of 227 global destinations, reported CNBC Travel. This achievement actually marks a pretty significant milestone in global mobility while demonstrating the diplomatic and international standing of Singapore. According to CNBC Travel, Japan actually closely follows in second place with 193 visa free destinations while Finland, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea and Spain share third place together whereas each country is offering access to 192 destinations. The rankings actually highlight the continued dominance of Asian and European nations in international travel freedom. The United Arab Emirates emerged as a notable climber while rising 32 places to enter the top 10 with access to 185 destinations, asserted CNBC Travel. At the same time, on the other hand, the US eventually experienced a significant decline while dropping seven places to ninth position.

Bitcoin retreats near a milestone level on profit-taking
Bitcoin's price has fallen sharply over the past 24 hours, down 3.6% to just above $94,000 (€89,000) at 5.30am CET. The retreat appears to be driven by profit-taking as the post-Trump rally stalled, lacking a fresh catalyst for bitcoin investors to propel the world's largest cryptocurrency past the key physicological barrier of $100,000 (€95,400).

London Stock Exchange suffers lowest IPO volume on record in 2024
According to EY's report, there were just 18 IPOs on the main market and AIM last year, with eight of these coming in the final quarter of 2024. However, despite the low volumes of listings, the value of the IPOs significantly trumped the proceeds raised in 2023, with a 256% rise year-on-year from £953.7m to £3.4bn. IPO activity predicted to return in 2025 as dealmakers turn increasingly bullish Most of this figure was raised by the IPO of French film producer and TV streaming service Canal +, which contributed £2.6bn to the £3.4bn total, marking the largest debut on the LSE since...
