Aqil was a member of the group’s military council and led Hezbollah’s Operations Unit for two decades. Rear Adm. Ram Nath Kovind-led 'One Nation One Election' panel studied simultaneous poll processes in 7 nations
election processes in seven countries including South Africa, Sweden and Belgium, before recommending simultaneous polls for Lok Sabha and state assemblies in India, according to the committee's report approved by Union Cabinet on Wednesday. The other countries where simultaneous elections are conducted are Germany, Japan, Indonesia and the Phillipines. The panel led by former president Ram Nath Kovind had submitted its report to President Droupadi Mumu in March recommending simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and state assemblies as the first step followed by synchronised local body polls within 100 days. According to the report, a comparative analysis of other countries was drawn while dealing with the issue of simultaneous elections. The aim was to study and adopt the best international practices to ensure fairness and transparency in elections.

EV tariffs will damage Germany, China, says Chinese commerce minister
European Union's imposition of tariffs on electric vehicles (EV) will «seriously interfere» with trade and investment cooperation and hurt both China and Germany. In talks on Tuesday with German Vice Chancellor and Economic Minister Robert Habeck, Wang Wentao said he hoped to reach a solution in line with World Trade Organisation rules as soon as possible, and avoid the escalation of China-EU economic and trade frictions, according to a statement released by China's Ministry of Commerce early on Wednesday. The European Commission is on the verge of proposing final tariffs of up to 35.3% on EVs built in China, on top of the EU's standard 10% car import duty.
