'Goosebumps': Inside the World Sauna Championships where performances heat up
Karoline Kristensen entered for her performance. But this was no ordinary Dutch theatre: the temperature was 80 degrees Celsius and the audience naked apart from a towel. Dressed in a swimsuit and to the tune of emotional music, the 21-year-old Kristensen started her routine, performed inside a large sauna, with a bed of hot rocks in the middle. For a week in September a group of wellness practitioners, called "sauna masters", are gathering at a picturesque health resort deep in the Netherlands to compete in this year's "Aufguss" world sauna championships.

India has demonstrated a largely successful inflation targeting regime compared to advanced economies such as the USA, Germany, and France, according to a research report by the State Bank of India (SBI). The report credits government initiatives, the RBI, and banks for addressing these issues over the past decade, allowing for better policy transmission and improved inflation management. «The success of Inflation Targeting in India is largely a byproduct of a vibrant financial ecosystem where RBI, Government and the Banks are working closely in unison in ushering in market reforms» said the report

US supports two permanent UN Security Council seats for Africa
United Nations Security Council seats for African states and one seat to be rotated among small island developing states, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Linda Thomas-Greenfield will announce on Thursday. The move comes as the U.S. seeks to repair ties with Africa, where many are unhappy about Washington's support for Israel's war in Gaza, and deepen relations with Pacific Islands nations important to countering Chinese influence in the region. Thomas-Greenfield told Reuters she hopes the announcement will «move this agenda forward in a way that we can achieve Security Council reform at some point in the future,» describing it as part of U.S. President Joe Biden's legacy.

Ukraine wants India to play more active role to end Russia’s war
United Nations Security Council, Ukraine’s ambassador in New Delhi said. Ukraine wants India to “moderate” talks between the two warring nations and use its ties with Russia to convince Moscow to join peace talks, Oleksandr Polishchuk said Tuesday. Ukraine has proposed India hold a peace summit before November 2024 aimed at ending the conflict, but it’s not clear yet if New Delhi will agree, he said. “If India is aiming for permanent seat in the United Nation’s Security Council to serve its own interest, it is setting the bar too low,” Polishchuck said.

Europe's top carmaker is cancelling the decades-old employment guarantees as part of cost-cutting drive that has triggered a showdown with workers as Volkswagen struggles to compete against cheaper Asian rivals. «These cancellations arrived seconds ago,» IG Metall said in an emailed statement.

Russia, Ukraine have to negotiate, India willing to give advice if they want: S Jaishankar in Germany
Ukraine conflict cannot be resolved on the battlefield, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Tuesday that Russia and Ukraine have to negotiate, and if they want advice, India is always willing to give. Jaishankar made the comments while responding to questions at the Annual Ambassadors' Conference of the German Foreign Office in Berlin, a day after he held a «useful conversation» with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the margins of the India-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers' meeting in the Saudi capital. «We don't think this conflict is going to be resolved on the battlefield. At some stage, there's going to be some negotiation. When there is a negotiation, the main parties — Russia and Ukraine — have to be at that negotiation,» he said. Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visits to Russia and Ukraine, he said that the Indian leader has said in Moscow and Kyiv that this is not an era of war.
