In the heart of Europe, Prateek Gupta and Neha Maheshwari are living a life many dream of—frequent European holidays and luxury cars. But behind this enviable lifestyle is a story of strategic financial planning that goes beyond indulgence. Despite moving from Bengaluru to Luxembourg in 2020, the couple has remained committed to investing exclusively in Indian stocks, carefully navigating the trade-offs that come with living abroad.

A German far-right party leads exit polls in one state election and is roughly level in another
far-right Alternative for Germany won a state election for the first time Sunday in the country’s east, and was set to finish at least a very close second to mainstream conservatives in a second vote, projections showed.A new party founded by a prominent leftist also made an immediate impact, while the parties in Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s unpopular national government obtained extremely weak results.Projections for ARD and ZDF public television based on exit polls and partial counting showed Alternative for Germany winning 32-33% of the vote in Thuringia — well ahead of the center-right Christian Democratic Union, the main national opposition party, with about 24%.In neighboring Saxony, projections put support for the CDU — which has led the state since German reunification in 1990 — at 31.7%, with AfD on 30.6-31.4%.“An openly right-wing extremist party has become the strongest force in a state parliament for the first time since 1949, and that causes many people very deep concern and fear,” said Omid Nouripour, a leader of the Greens, one of the national governing parties.Other parties say they won’t put AfD in power by joining it in a coalition. Even so, its strength is likely to make it extremely difficult to form new state governments, forcing the parties into exotic new coalitions.

Asian shares steady, dollar firm before jobs test
markets got off to a quiet start on Monday as investors braced for a data-packed week culminating in a U.S. jobs report that could decide whether a rate cut expected this month will be regular or super-sized. A holiday in the United States and Canada made for thin liquidity, while wins for far-right parties in German state elections added a fresh layer of political uncertainty.

Bayer Leverkusen beaten in the Bundesliga for first time in 15 months by Leipzig
Bayer Leverkusen lost a Bundesliga game for the first time in 15 months when Lois Openda scored twice in a 3-2 comeback win for Leipzig on Saturday. Under coach Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen has made crucial late goals a speciality. It briefly seemed like that might happen again when the referee went to review a possible penalty in the 86th minute after Leipzig's Castello Lukeba and Leverkusen's Patrik Schick made contact. The referee decided against the spot kick and Leverkusen lost to a German opponent for the first time since May 2023 after 35 Bundesliga games unbeaten, including its entire title-winning 2023-24 season. «It's hard, it's bitter,» Alonso told German broadcaster Sky. «I don't think we deserved to lose today.»

ET WLF 2024: Rich history, culture can help India win spot among top 10 tourist destinations
«This is the first time independent India has seen such impetus or focus on developing infrastructure, both from the government and the private sector, such as road network, improvement of stations, world class airports, sports stadiums, convention centers,» said Mandeep Lamba, president and CEO, South Asia, HVS Anarock, while moderating the session. Tourism in India grew 300% YoY in 2023, said MakeMyTrip executive officer Rajesh Magow. «We have to create awareness and change the perception of the country, because people (tourists) also worry about security and safety.» Tourism in India is only at 85% of what it was in 2019 before the Covid pandemic hit, he said.
