Addressing a special press briefing on the State visit of Bangladesh PM to India today, Kwatra also stated that renewing the disaster management agreement will improve response and capacity building. Market Moves: Ashi Anand’s take on Indian IT and auto sectors
ET Now: The Indian IT pack has seen a lot of changes following Accenture's latest numbers, which showed a slight miss. Despite this, some brokerage notes suggest this could be a positive for Indian IT, although recovery might be gradual. What do you make of these numbers, and what impact could they have on the external-facing IT sector? If you were to play this sector, would you favor large caps over mid caps, or what is your strategy for the Indian IT space?

FPIs turn net buyers of Indian equities at Rs 12,170 crore in June so far after two months of selling
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) seemed to have shrugged-off their selling trends of the last two months turning net buyers as we reach towards the end of the June series. As on June 21, they had bought Indian equities worth Rs 12,170 crore. From the position of being net sellers till last week they came a long way at the end of this holiday-shortened week. In the first week of June they were net sellers of domestic equities at 14,794 crore but narrowed the sale figures to Rs 3,064 crore at the end of the second week.

Sentiment is changing, FIIs could push market rally further, says Chandan Taparia of Motilal Oswal
FIIs long-short ratio, this is working well in the Indian market. If I look at the historical data of the last two-and-a-half, three years, then the ratio goes near 10% to 15% on the lower side and on upside it goes till 70-75%. And just a couple of days back, the ratio of FIIs long-short ratio was 12% to 13% and now (12:13), so that clearly indicates that FIIs covered their short positions. So, short covering trigger was there. They built some long position also after a long time. So, somehow it seems that sentiment is changing and that may support the Indian market. As of now, the SIP and the flow from the DIIs were supporting the market and now if FIIs do the short covering, then further leg of rally could be seen, says Chandan Taparia, Motilal Oswal ET Now: Nearly, it is like a range. Though we hit a lot of records this week, Nifty hit a record, Bank Nifty hit a record for this week, but the range where we started Nifty, we have clearly or closely ended on those points only, 50 odd points of gain only. Is there a sign of exhaustion now? Are we in for a consolidated trade for the coming week? How would you trade from here?

Govt, opposition face-off on protem Speaker issue ahead of first Lok Sabha session
Lok Sabha, the NDA government and the INDIA bloc sparred on the issue of Pro-tem Speaker with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accusing the Congress of resorting to lies and the opposition threatening to refuse to join the panel of chairpersons in the House. President Droupadi Murmu had appointed BJP leader and seven-term member Bhartruhari Mahtab as the Pro-tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha, who is tasked with administering the oath and affirmation to the newly-elected members of the lower house and preside over the election of the Speaker. The President had also named five senior members — K Suresh (Congress), T R Baalu (DMK), Radha Mohan Singh and Faggan Singh Kulaste (both BJP) and Sudip Bandyopadhyay (TMC) to assist Mahtab in the process that will take place over the first three days of the Lok Sabha Session commencing on June 24. The Congress had alleged that the government has violated procedures and conventions and ignored the right of eight-term member Suresh to the post of the pro-tem Speaker, a claim dismissed as «misleading» by Rijiju.

India boosts defense ties with Bangladesh as it tries to become a counterweight to China
India and Bangladesh on Saturday moved to bolster their defense relationship and signed agreements for expanding cooperation in maritime security, ocean economy, space, and telecommunication sectors, as New Delhi tries to present itself as a regional power and a counterweight to China. The agreements were signed during Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India, the first foreign leader to visit New Delhi since Narendra Modi became the country's prime minister for a third term two weeks ago. Modi welcomed Bangladesh's decision to join his Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative to expand and facilitate regional cooperation of India's maritime neighbors. He said the deals with Dhaka were part of his country's pursuit of a neighborhood-first approach.

What's behind India's hardening posture against China?
Modi government in its third term might harden its posture against the neighbour with which relations have been hostage to heightened border disputes ever since skirmishes between Indian and Chinese forces along the border in 2020. PM Modi is likely to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Kazakhstan in the first week of July where he might run into China’s President Xi Jinping. Shortly before a possible meeting between the two leaders, India seems to be hardening its posture against China. The two meetings between Modi and Xi after the Galwan clashes at the G20 Summit at Bali in 2022 and the BRICS Summit in South Africa a year later failed to yield any positive results. Thousands of troops remain deployed on either side of the Sino-india border .

Defer implementation of new criminal laws: Jairam Ramesh
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday demanded that the enforcement of the three criminal laws, which are to come into force from July 1, be deferred, saying the Bills were «bulldozed» through Parliament. In a post on X, Ramesh said the implementation of the Bills be deferred to enable a thorough review and re-examination by a reconstituted Standing Committee on Home Affairs as they were passed at a time when 146 MPs had been suspended. «On Dec 25 2023, the President of India had given her assent to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023,the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023. The three far-reaching Bills had been bulldozed through Parliament without proper debate and discussion, and at a time when 146 MPs had been suspended from the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha,» Ramesh said. «Earlier the Bills had been bulldozed through the Standing Committee on Home Affairs without detailed interactions with stakeholders across the country and completely ignoring the written and very detailed dissent notes of a number of MPs belonging to different political parties, including the Indian National Congress, who were members of the Standing Committee,» he said.

Open to probe, regulations will help doing business: Axis My India chief on alleged stock market manipulation through exit polls
exit polls allegedly being used for stock market manipulation, Axis My India's chief Pradeep Gupta has said he is open to facing all kinds of investigations and it would help do business in a much better way if the government frames specific regulations for pollsters. Opposition parties and several civil society groups have been asking for thorough investigations, including by capital markets regulator SEBI and a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), after the stock markets witnessed a massive rally when exit polls gave a huge majority to the BJP but fell sharply after the actual results showed the ruling party falling short of a clear majority on its own. In an interaction with PTI editors at the agency's headquarters here, Gupta said he has been demanding formulation of norms and regulations for pollsters since five years.
