Ashwani Kumar says he ate only a banana before claiming four wickets on IPL debut
Ashwani Kumar picked up four wickets on IPL debut as MI restricted KKR to 116 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday. The left-arm pacer got the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane on the first ball he bowled and went on to become the first Indian to take a four wicket haul on IPL debut. After the heroic performance, the 23-year-old said he was feeling the pressure early on and had eaten only a banana before the match as he was not hungry. “I am feeling very good. I was feeling pressure early on but the team environment did not make me feel that way. I just had a banana because there was pressure, so was not feeling very hungry. I had planned a little but they told me to enjoy myself on debut and bowl what I have been bowling,” Kumar said. “Hardik bhai told me to bowl short and to bowl at the body and that led to a wicket. In my village, everyone would be watching. They were just waiting for my debut, and by god's grace, I got an opportunity tonight and did well,” he added.

Indian doctor accuses biohacker Bryan Johnson of fraud, sparks twitter debate: ‘It’s terrifying people do not see....’
biohacking has long been a mix of innovation and controversy, but a recent confrontation between Indian Hepatologist Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, better known as «The Liver Doc,» and tech entrepreneur Bryan Johnson has sent shockwaves through the wellness community. The Kerala-based doctor has publicly accused Johnson of fraud, claiming that his Blueprint longevity supplements are nothing more than overpriced “snake oil” with no real clinical backing. The feud erupted on social media when Dr. Philips compared Johnson to infamous fraudsters Elizabeth Holmes and Belle Gibson, both of whom were exposed for misleading health claims. “It’s terrifying that people don’t recognize Bryan Johnson as an advanced, well-marketed version of these fraudsters,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. His post ignited a fierce debate about the credibility of Johnson’s multi-million-dollar anti-ageing venture.

Salman Khan, the Bollywood superstar, has never shied away from expressing his admiration for sports personalities. Among the many athletes he respects, one stands out — Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team. Khan's admiration for Dhoni goes beyond his cricketing skills; it is Dhoni's unique personality that truly impresses the actor. During an appearance on a sports show, Salman Khan was once asked to name his favorite cricketer, to which he immediately responded, “I am a fan of Dhoni.” The actor expressed that he has great admiration for Dhoni’s calm and composed nature, describing him as someone who is “very cool” and never shows aggression. He emphasized that Dhoni's mannerisms, whether he takes a wicket or achieves something remarkable, are always understated. Khan remarked, “Even if he takes a wicket, he does not make much noise, and he never humiliates the opponent.” This quality of remaining unruffled and dignified, according to Khan, makes Dhoni stand out in the world of cricket.

India dismisses NYT report on HAL re-routing sensitive tech to Russia, calls it 'factually incorrect and misleading'
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday strongly rejected a report published by The New York Times, calling it «factually incorrect and misleading.» Official sources stated that the report misrepresented facts and framed issues to suit a particular political narrative. Responding to allegations concerning Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a state-owned defence company, the MEA asserted that HAL has always complied with international rules on strategic trade controls and end-user commitments. «We (Ministry of External Affairs) have seen a report published by The New York Times. The said report is factually incorrect and misleading. It has tried to frame issues and distort facts to suit a political narrative. The Indian entity (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited-HAL) mentioned in the report has scrupulously followed all its international obligations on strategic trade controls and end-user commitments,» MEA sources told news agency ANI. The ministry also highlighted India's strong legal and regulatory framework for strategic trade. It reaffirmed that all Indian companies conducting business overseas are guided by these regulations. «India’s robust legal and regulatory framework on strategic trade continues to guide overseas commercial ventures by its companies. We expect reputed media outlets to undertake basic due diligence while publishing such reports, which obviously was overlooked in the instant case,» sources added.

Did Steve Jobs predict LLM-based AI in 1985? His fascination with this Greek philosopher suggests he did
Steve Jobs was a man of boundless curiosity. The Apple co-founder, who revolutionized personal computing, music, and smartphones, was also a deep thinker with an insatiable hunger for knowledge. But there was one question he could never ask—at least, not in his lifetime. In a 1985 talk in Sweden, Jobs revealed an unusual source of envy: Alexander the Great. The reason? The young conqueror had Aristotle as his personal mentor for over a decade. «I read this, and I became immensely jealous,» Jobs admitted. He could read Aristotle’s works, of course, but what he truly craved was interaction—an opportunity to ask questions and get answers from the philosopher himself. And then, he made a prediction. A bold one. A hope for the future:

MSMEs in India and the insurance imperative: Closing the protection gap.
India’s economy, MSMEs remain critically underinsured. With less than 15% having adequate insurance coverage, millions of businesses are left vulnerable to financial shocks. Why, then, do so many small enterprises overlook such a crucial safety net? Business insurance penetration among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India remains alarmingly low. Given that there are 63 million MSMEs, which currently contribute approximately 30% to India’s gross domestic product (GDP), only a small fraction have insurance. Insurance coverage is crucial for MSMEs, given their limited capacity to withstand risks such as payment defaults. In the post-pandemic world, challenges such as supply chain disruptions, geopolitical tensions, inflation, and economic slowdowns have further heightened the risks associated with exports, making risk mitigation through insurance more vital than ever. This raises an important question: Are MSMEs reluctant to embrace insurance, or is the system failing to make insurance accessible and compelling? According to Girija Subramanian, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, The New India Assurance Co. Ltd., the issue is deeply rooted in perception and awareness. Speaking on the sidelines of the Economic Times (ET) MSME Awards 2024 in Delhi, Subramanian addressed this challenge in a fireside chat moderated by Neha Dewan, Assistant News Editor, The Economic Times.

Why India's middle class wants their children in international schools
international board schools for their children, with the nation hosting the second-largest number of international schools worldwide — not just in name with a tag, but in affiliation with global education boards, reported ToI. Apart from being in India's richer cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, the schools are now reaching places like Hatkanagale in Sangli, Tholahunse in Davangere, and Sonaghati in Betul. «Every year, Cambridge is adding 100 schools, and 30 to 40 new schools of IB are coming up each year. The aspiration of the middle class is at an all-time high. The phenomenon is not limited to metro cities but tier 2 and 3 cities, where the major growth now is coming from,» Mahesh Srivastava, former regional director (South Asia), Cambridge Assessment International Education told ToI.
