Election Commission has amended a key rule relating to the allocation of party symbols to make it applicable in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. A notification issued by the poll panel on Monday said Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968 stands amended and will come into force with «immediate effect». Till the time Jammu and Kashmir was a state, it had its own version of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and the law applicable elsewhere in country was not applicable there. Later, provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution were abrogated and Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two Union territories in 2019.

BAT Plc on Tuesday said in a statement that its wholly-owned subsidiary Tobacco Manufacturers (India) Ltd will sell around 3.5% stake in ITC Ltd to institutional investors by way of a block deal and has launched the process. BAT said after the completion of the proposed block deal, BAT will continue to remain a significant shareholder of ITC with around 25.5% holding. BAT wanted to have more than 25% shareholding in ITC to have a strategic influence and veto rights in the company, chief executive Tadeu Marroco had said in December.

The government said the JKNF has been «indulging in unlawful activities, which are prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty, and security of the country.» It said members of the JKNF have remained involved in supporting terrorist activities and anti-India propaganda for fuelling secessionism in Jammu and Kashmir and providing logistic support to terrorists in the Union territory.
