bail petition of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, arrested on a sedition charge, as no lawyer appeared on his behalf. Swatantra Gauranga Das, an associate of the monk at his Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, claimed that no lawyer represented the Hindu leader due to threats from a «politically motivated lawyers' group». The bail hearing at the Chattogram court has now been postponed to January 2. Das' arrest on November 25 had triggered demonstrations by supporters of the monk, who was previously with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). In Chattogram, an assistant government prosecutor, Saiful Islam Alif, was killed in a protest after the monk was denied bail.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest software service provider, expanded partnership with Bank of Bhutan, the largest commercial bank of Bhutan, to modernise the bank’s digital core for enhanced customer service, the company informed the stock exchanges. The financial and other details of the deal were not disclosed. TCS said in a statement that it will implement its banking software platform TCS BaNCS to help the bank optimise operations and integrate with the various public services within the digital ecosystem of the country.

Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), under the chairmanship Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for five capital acquisition proposals worth over Rs 21,772 crore on Tuesday. This included the procurement of Water Jet Fast Attack Crafts, Fast Interceptor Craft, Electronic Warfare Suite, Next Generation Radar Warning Receiver and Advanced Light Helicopters. DAC granted the approval for the procurement of 31 New Water Jet Fast Attack Crafts (NWJFACs) for the Indian Navy. These are designed to perform the task of low intensity maritime operations, surveillance, patrol, and search and rescue (SAR) operations close to the coast. In addition, these vessels will also play a role in anti-piracy missions, in and around India's island territories.

During a ministerial dialogue on finance at the 16th UN conference to combat desertification in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav also shared that India has already restored 22.5 million hectares of degraded land against the target of 26 million hectares by 2030. The minister said adequate financing holds the «key to achieving the objectives of the UNCCD» and that the World Drought Atlas released on Monday could serve as a guide for increasing mobilization of financial resources. Yadav also highlighted government initiatives like the Green Credit Programme, which involves identifying and restoring degraded land with financial support from industries.
