China welcomes more Indian investments, ambassador says
Indian investments and commodities in the Chinese market and also hopes that India will provide a «sound business environment» for Chinese firms in the country, Beijing's ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, said on Thursday. The comments signal a willingness from Beijing to forge deeper economic ties with New Delhi that have been strained since a deadly clash between their troops on a Himalayan frontier in 2020. India heightened scrutiny on Chinese investments after the clash and created new layers of red tape for Indian firms with Chinese stakeholders. But the Indian government is now looking to loosen some of these restrictions as its firms struggle to scale up manufacturing.

Expect rate moderation, not a severe rate cut cycle, denoting problems with growth & capex: Vinod Karki
Vinod Karki, Equity Strategist,ICICI Securities, says some growth concerns are seen on the defensive side. Cyclicals are growing faster, and there are growth concerns in the IT sector and a lot of concerns on the agri-rural economy. This year, we had a massive heatwave and now a lot of rainfall. The temporal and spatial distribution has been pretty uneven, and so the outlook is not looking that good. IT services and consumption have seen growth issues overall. The valuation is at a record high. So, even though the cyclicals are expensive, there might be some shifts there. On Thursday, the Supreme Court rejected telecom firms' pleas to recalculate adjusted gross revenues (AGRs) amid ongoing disputes over government dues. Vodafone India, Bharti Airtel, and others argued that the Department of Telecommunications erred in calculating license fees and spectrum charges. This particular news development coming in, is not too positive for Vodafone Idea or the telecom space as a whole. Do you have a view on the telecom space?

Tour guide express concern over plant growth on marble wall of Taj Mahal
Plant growth on the marble wall of the Taj Mahal's central dome has raised concerns about the monument's maintenance after a tourist shared a photo on social media. The plant, sprouting between the marble stones on the northern side of the dome, appeared just days after rainwater seeped through the ivory-white structure, causing droplets to reach the tomb below. Tour operators and organizations are questioning the conservation efforts in place. Shakeel Chauhan, national general secretary of the Tourist Guide Federation of India, commented, «The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) spends Rs 4 crore annually on the Taj Mahal's preservation. Such images tarnish the monument's reputation.» He urged for immediate conservation work following the rainy season. Rajkumar Patel, superintending archaeologist, stated that all plants on the mausoleum's walls were removed in August. «This plant has appeared in the last 15 days and will be promptly removed,» he assured. A tourist guide noted that displaced inlay stones near the plant could lead to further damage if not addressed quickly.

What debate? Reducing debt is the same as tightening the fiscal deficit.
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Conceptually, for the administration of any country, targeting its debt-to-gross domestic product (GDP) ratio is tantamount to controlling its fiscal deficit ratio. It is not possible to influence the debt ratio without a firm grip on the fiscal deficit.

Will English dominate machine communication? Mayank Kumar to demystify the future of coding at ET Soonicorns Summit 2024
This thought-provoking topic will be at the heart of a Fireside chat featuring Mayank Kumar, Co-founder and Managing Director of upGrad, during the highly anticipated ET Soonicorns Summit 2024, set to take place on September 20 in Bengaluru. As the summit’s theme of ‘From Resurgence to Resilience’ drives home, this session will offer actionable insights into how startups and developers can recalibrate for the future. The event, taking place on September 20 in Bengaluru, will feature other industry stalwarts such as Hari Menon, Aman Gupta, Prayank Swaroop, Sangeeta Bavi, and Umakant Soni, among others, who will engage in dialogues on the evolving funding landscape, building business through strategic reinvention, and the technologies of tomorrow. However, to fully grasp the relevance of Kumar’s Fireside chat, we must first understand the role of English in today’s programming world. English has long been the default language for most programming languages—whether it’s Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript. From syntax to function names and even documentation, English is deeply embedded in the linguistic architecture of software development. This widespread use of English in programming has removed linguistic barriers to a great extent considering English, today, has been described as the “fastest-spreading language in human history. English is estimated to be spoken by some 1.75 billion people worldwide—that’s one in every four of us. The count includes both native speakers and speakers in post-colonial parts of the world. English is also increasingly a global corporate lingua franca. Interestingly, two Indian languages are part of the world’s top 10 most spoken languages: Hindi and Bengali.
