Steady Russia-Armenia ties imperative for stability in Caucus
Nikol Pashinyan skipped the CIS summit in Kyrgyzstan last week, Russia-Armenia ties are striving to remain steady as the partnership serves national interests of both countries. While there are fears that Russia-West conflict might “spread to Armenia '' in the backdrop of exodus from Nagarno-Karabah, Armenia and Ukraine are two different situations despite rising differences of opinion between Moscow and Yerevan. Armenia is a member of the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization and has a bilateral defense agreement with Russia. Armenia and Russia have strategic partnership and Armenia currently hosts around 10,000 Russian troops, 5,000 of which are stationed at Gyumri's 102nd Russian military base.

Israel readies to invade Gaza where one million have fled homes
Gaza ground invasion aimed at destroying Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist militant group that unleashed the bloodiest attack in the country's history. In the eight days since Hamas gunmen killed more than 1,300 Israelis in their surprise onslaught, Israel has responded with a devastating bombing campaign that has claimed over 2,300 lives in Gaza. Fear and chaos reigned in the 40-kilometre (25-mile) long strip that is one of the world's most densely populated areas and where the UN estimated that one million have been displaced in the war's first week. Entire Gaza city blocks lay in ruins and hospitals were overflowing with thousands of wounded in the besieged territory, but there were fears of worse to come. A bereaved and infuriated Israel has massed forces outside the long-blockaded enclave of 2.4 million in preparation for what the army has said would be a land, air and sea attack involving a «significant ground operation». Israel has also stationed troops and tanks on its UN-patrolled northern border with Lebanon and closed a four kilometre (2.5 mile) wide zone there to civilians after deadly exchanges of cross-border fire with Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited front line troops in the south near Gaza on Saturday, wearing a flak jacket. «Are you ready for what is coming?» he said.

Iran's foreign minister warns Israel from Beirut it could suffer ''a huge earthquake''
Israel to stop its attacks on Gaza, warning that the war might expand to other parts of the Middle East if Hezbollah joins the battle, and that would make Israel suffer «a huge earthquake.» Hossein Amirabdollahian told reporters in Beirut that Lebanon's Hezbollah group has taken all the scenarios of a war into consideration and Israel should stop its attacks on Gaza as soon as possible. Israel considers Hezbollah its most serious immediate threat, estimating it has some 150,000 rockets and missiles, including precision-guided missiles that can hit anywhere in Israel.

Tension in West Asia: Where are crude oil prices headed?
oil prices held steady near $85 a barrel, but traders remain cautious following the eruption of violence between Israel and Hamas, which could potentially disturb the oil supply chain in the Middle East. Prices clocked one-year highs at the end of September, driven by worries about supply shortages after a surprise extension of voluntary supply cuts by Saudi Arabia and Russia, but the momentum was short-lived. An unexpected buildup in US crude inventories and concerns over demand adversely hit the sentiments. However, extreme uncertainty prevails in the global oil market as the ongoing clash between Israel and Hamas sparks fears that the turmoil could spread across West Asia and threaten the world’s oil supply. The direct impact on oil prices is limited, as neither Israel nor Gaza produces significant amounts of oil.

Hamas attack mastermind known as 'The Guest' for staying in different houses every night
El Deif' or the Guest, because, for decades, he has stayed in different houses every night to avoid being tracked, and killed, by Israel and he is now in charge of the militant group's military wing, the Al Qassem Brigades, the media reported. Thought to have been born in the 1960s, El Deif is little known to ordinary Palestinians, CNN quoted Mkhaimar Abusada, a professor of political science at Al Azah University in Gaza, as saying. “He’s very much like a ghost to the majority of the Palestinians,” he said. The Al Qassem Brigades were opposed to the peace process embraced by Yassir Arafat, then-leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and the 1993 Oslo Accords that were supposed to pave the way to a two-state solution of a new Palestine living in peace alongside Israel. In 1996, El Deif, an accomplished bomb maker, was behind a wave of four suicide attacks that killed 65 people in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and other outrages intended to derail the peace process, CNN reported. The tighter the Israeli and Egyptian control over Gaza’s borders – the more Hamas (and other groups) developed military means to fight back. Chief among them is rockets. Primitive at first, the missiles have been improved and refined over years of help from Iran. The Tehran theocracy, also dedicated to the eradication of the Jewish state, trained engineers, organised technology transfers and guided developments to create rockets capable of hitting Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, CNN reported. Men like El Deif, the bomb makers and decision takers, were hunted by Israel. In 2014, an air strike killed his wife and daughter.

How Hamas secretly built a 'mini-army' to fight Israel
Hamas will confront an ever-more capable opponent trained for years by a clandestine support network that stretches far beyond the tiny enclave to Iran and allied Arab groups. Hamas' deadly attack on southern Israel six days ago — unprecedented for the group in its planning and scale — was a devastating demonstration of the military expertise it has gained since seizing control of Gaza in 2007. «Necessity is the mother of invention,» said Ali Baraka, a senior Hamas official, adding that the group had long drawn on money and training from Iran and Iranian regional proxies like Lebanon's Hezbollah, while bolstering its own forces in Gaza.
