No structural downside, liquidity to cushion market dips: Mayuresh Joshi
Mayuresh Joshi, Head Equity, Marketsmith India, says the markets are fearing a possible escalation in the Middle East conflict. In the Indian context, earnings might be a tad bit soft going into this quarter's numbers as well. But with good monsoon, expectations of rural recovery, second half should be relatively better as far as India Inc is concerned. So, Joshi is not looking at a structural downside. Liquidity remains strong and for any fall in the market that comes through, liquidity might come back and cushion them. It is getting bad in the market, could it get ugly? Mayuresh Joshi: There are two-three angles. One, obviously, in terms of how global macros are shaping up. The expectations in terms of the China stimulus has clearly buoyed sentiments in terms of foreign flows towards China. Again, undervalued, under-owned and therefore, the kind of move that we saw on the Chinese markets because of the stimulus was something to be watched out for.

India has great potential to emerge as hub for green shipbuilding, says maritime expert
maritime industry expert said on Wednesday. Modernisation and upgradation of Indian shipyards is in progress, while older dockyards are being assessed for reopening and adding more capacities for green shipbuilding given a strong pickup in global demand, said Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, Regional Manager South East Asia, Pacific & India, Maritime at DNV, a Norway-based testing, certification and technical advisory services provider. «We see great potential in India emerging as a hub for green shipbuilding, driven by its government's strong focus on alternative fuels and renewable energy like biofuels and wind power,» said the industry veteran. The Indian government is encouraging investments and technology transfer from Japanese and Korean shipyards to establish shipbuilding and ship repair clusters in the country. This comes at a time when most traditional shipbuilding yards in Asia are fully booked while demand for green-maritime assets is surging ahead of the phase-based elimination of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Oracle to invest $6.5 billion to set up cloud facilities in Malaysia
Oracle plans to invest more than $6.5 billion to set up its first public cloud region in Malaysia, the company said on Wednesday, the latest major investment by a global tech firm into the Southeast Asian country. Technology giants including Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet unit Google and China's ByteDance have announced billions of dollars worth of digital investments into Malaysia since last year, mostly in cloud services and data centres, powering an infrastructure boom driven by growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI). A cloud region is the physical, geographic location where a company's public cloud facilities are located. Oracle's venture is set to be one of the largest single tech investments so far, outpacing the $6.2 billion planned spending by Amazon's cloud unit AWS announced last year.

India must pivot to a new set of economic & trade policies that values human beings
economic policy framework for the next generation of reforms. That is a sensible move. India has compelling reasons to move away from a textbook framework of open economy macroeconomics. It strives for strategic autonomy in a geopolitically riven world, in which one superpower sits astride the northern border, has built supercharged industrial muscle that can smother Indian industry, and casts a covetous eye on Indian territory. India can find ready support, vis-a-vis China, in the US. However, if the US finds that India is reliant solely on American support, it would have it where China has Pakistan — by the scruff of the neck. India would have to give up all dreams of strategic autonomy.

Apple's iPhone SE 4 leaks: OLED display, A18 chip, affordable price and 48MP camera tipped
iPhone SE 4 could adopt a design similar to the iPhone 14, boasting a larger 6.1-inch OLED display. This is a considerable jump from the current model's 4.7-inch LCD screen and signals Apple's move to phase out LCD technology in favor of OLED across its entire iPhone lineup. The shift from LCD to OLED could have major implications for Apple's long-standing suppliers, such as Japan Display and Sharp, who have been key providers of LCD screens for previous SE models. On the performance front, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to feature the A18 chip, the same processor used in the recently launched iPhone 16 series.
