This is when Ben Affleck realized he didn’t want to be married to Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck had problems right from the start of their marriage. When they weren't in front of the cameras, they would hardly talk to each other during what was meant to be the happiest time of their lives. Only a few months after their official separation date in April, on August 20, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck. Fans are certain they have discovered the exact moments the Good Will Hunting actor decided he no longer wanted to be married to the Wedding Planner actress, even though it hasn't been confirmed what their particular marital problems were. While Affleck and Lopez lived separately for a while, ignoring their second wedding anniversary in July, rumours about them circulated online for weeks. Fans questioned whether the couple would get back together or call it quits, with the singer now living in the Hamptons and Affleck in Los Angeles. The latter was the case. Chaos at Chelsea: A high-risk, $1.3B spending spree has left the club fractured and vulnerable
Chelsea under their American investors will be a fascinating case study about running a soccer club. Because no one in England or beyond has ever seen anything like what has been happening at Stamford Bridge over the last two years. Just take this in: Chelsea has spent nearly $1.3 billion on 39 players across five transfer windows since a consortium fronted by Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital bought the Premier League club from its long-time owner, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, for $3.2 billion in May 2022. Throw in the club having four different full-time managers in this period — plus another coach on a temporary basis — and the revolving door at Chelsea, a six-time English champion and two-time European champion, simply hasn't stopped spinning.

The 47 seconds that saved Kamala Harris' political career
Kamala Harris' campaign for California attorney general is that she was not necessarily favored to win. It was 2010 — the pinnacle of the Tea Party's power — and Harris was running statewide for the first time and struggling to shed the same San Francisco liberal label that Donald Trump is yet again wielding as an epithet. Harris, then 45, was already seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party. «The female Barack Obama,» Gwen Ifill had memorably tagged her the year before. But plenty of rising stars are snuffed out early, and Harris was facing a formidable Republican foe that year in Steve Cooley, the popular and moderate district attorney of Los Angeles County.

Busiest US ports absorb import surge nearing pandemic-era frenzy
The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, which account for roughly a third of all US container imports, had their third-strongest month ever in July, just shy of an all-time high reached in May 2021. Back then, a wave of inbound consumer goods caused supply bottlenecks on land and a queue of cargo ships waiting for a berth offshore was getting longer by the day. Demand now is driven by retailers and other importers that are stocking up ahead of US tariffs on Chinese goods and a possible strike by a large group of American dockworkers — adding to the usual frenzy of pre-holiday ordering that occurs this time of year.

Fine dining’s love affair with inspirational quotes
chef Niki Nakayama opened a restaurant in Los Angeles, US, in 2011, she asked herself: “What do I want the staff to feel when we’re doing our work?” Then she wrote down the following words on a piece of paper: “Every day, better in every way. Everything is done with focus, heart, gratitude, love, care, purpose, intention, faith.” Initially the paper was placed by Nakayama’s workstation, but over time, it found its way into the menu, and eventually, it was reprinted as a permanent sign that hangs in two places in the kitchen today. Restaurant kitchens across the world, especially those in the fine dining world, display inspirational quotes and slogans for their staff to see and, hopefully, take to heart. Some read like a meditation; others a rousing locker room chant.

Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana extraditable to India: US appeals court
Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman could be extradited to India where is wanted for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack carried out by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. «The (India US Extradition) Treaty permits Rana's extradition,» the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said in its ruling on Thursday. Ruling on an appeal filed by 63-year-old Rana, a panel of judges of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed the District Court in the Central District of California's denial of his habeas corpus petition challenging a magistrate judge's certification of his as extraditable to India for his alleged participation in terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Rana, currently lodged in a jail in Los Angeles, faces charges for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai attack and is known to be associated with Pakistani-American Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist David Coleman Headley, one of the main conspirators of the terror incident that hit India's financial hub in 2008.
