Oil rebounds to climb $1 as Russia bans most fuel exports
Oil prices rebounded from $1 down to $1 up in trading on Thursday, after a Russian ban on fuel exports snapped focus away from Western economic headwinds and back to throttled crude supply to the end of 2023. Brent futures for November delivery were up $1.02, or 1.09%, to $94.55 a barrel by 1348 GMT. U.S.

Market Wrap: Sensex, Nifty end with deep cuts; investors lose over ₹2 lakh crore in a day
Nifty closed with solid losses on Wednesday, extending their losses into the second consecutive session amid mixed global cues ahead of the US Fed policy outcome while the US Treasury yields hovered near multi-year highs. The Fed is likely to keep rates unchanged today but the risk of inflation is not over yet with crude oil prices surging sharply in the recent past. Crude oil benchmark Brent Crude futures fell over a per cent in today's trade, slipping from its 10-month high level but they are still up nearly 30 per cent in the last three months after the output cut by OPEC+.

Despite limitations, more Indians to apply for visa this year than record 2019
VFS Global, which manages visa applications for more than 50 countries, says it has from January to June 2023 processed well over 30 lakh visa applications in India as opposed to 60 lakh in all of 2019 which had faced none of the challenges currently being seen. The travel momentum continues even after two major tourism destination — the US and Europe — have longer interview wait time, appointment count capping, etc. Incidentally, 2019 was a record year for visa lodgments in India which 2023 is now all set to better. The numbers would have been higher had it not been for the processing limitations being faced by the US and Schengen States, say several travel industry veterans. “We are expecting to surpass pre-pandemic visa applications volumes by this calendar year end. There has been a robust rebound in outbound travel sentiments. Despite initial skepticism, the level of bounce back has resulted in a demand-supply gap,” VFS Global COO (South Asia) Prabuddha Sen told TOI. US B1 (business) and B2 (visitor) visa applicants are facing a current wait time of 1.5 year long for the interview. According to the leading travel agents, all the Schengen countries — barring Norway and Sweden — have an visa appointment count capping which means only about half of the number of Indians desiring to travel are able to secure an appointment.

Air pollution can hurt unborn babies, study says even low levels of exposure may lead to risk of asthma & COPD in adulthood
air pollution, even at relatively low levels, is associated with women giving birth to smaller babies, according to a study. The research, to be presented at the European Respiratory Society International Congress in Milan, Italy from September 9-13, also shows that women living in greener areas give birth to bigger babies and this may help counteract the effects of pollution. There is a strong relationship between birthweight and lung health, with low birthweight children facing a higher risk of asthma and higher rates of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) as they grow older, the researchers said. There is a need to reduce air pollution and make towns and cities greener to help protect babies and their developing lungs from potential harm, they said. The study was based on data from the Respiratory Health in Northern Europe (RHINE) study and presented by Robin Mzati Sinsamala, a researcher at the University of Bergen (UiB), Norway. It included 4,286 children and their mothers living in five European countries — Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Estonia. The researchers gauged the greenness of the areas where the women were living during pregnancy by measuring the density of vegetation on satellite images.

Some investors may oppose ICICI's bid to delist broking arm
ICICI Bank's proposed bid to delist its broking and investment bank arm might face opposition from a section of the shareholders. While some investors think the conditions to delist ICICI Securities do not favour public shareholders, lawyers are raising questions about the capital markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India's (Sebi) decision to grant some exemptions from the conventional delisting process. «The minority shareholders of ICICI Securities are being gravely wronged by the delisting, that is, besides being unfair in every sense (valuation, methodology & logic), defies the basic grain of propriety,» said Manu Rishi Gupta, founder of MRG Capital, a Bengaluru-based investment fund, in an open letter.
