Then, an embarrassed Mumbai Municipal Corporation claimed Orangi in the Pakistani port city of Karachi has inherited that rather ignominious moniker. However, Dharavi still is home to a very large number of people — more than half a million — jostling for meagre resources on a relatively tiny patch of land — of about 550 acres. And, the area remains central to the outcome of the parliamentary polls in the Mumbai South Central seat. Dharavi is populated largely with 50 to 70 square foot homes, interspersed with leather and plastic recycling and pottery and other small-scale units. Successive state governments for several decades have been promising to redevelop Dharavi, which is part of the Mumbai south central constituency.

High Court in Pakistan on Wednesday granted bail to Imran Khan in the 190 million pounds corruption case, in which the jailed former prime minister and his wife are accused of receiving land worth billions of rupees as a bribe from a real estate tycoon. A two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court had reserved the verdict on Tuesday after the completion of arguments. On Wednesday, the court asked Khan to submit a surety bond of Rs 1 million in order to secure bail. However, the order will not result in the ex-premier's release from Adiala jail since his sentences in the Iddat and cypher cases are yet to be suspended.

They had not expected the Indian government to lift the export ban till the general elections were over,» said an exporter of onions from Nashik, who claims that the export orders, after spiking for a couple of days, have suddenly dried up. India's lifting of its export ban in May took the international markets by surprise. India has kept a minimum export price (MEP) of $550 per tonne with export duty of 40%.

India and Iran signed a 10-year contract on Monday for the management of Chabahar port, putting the seal on what’s envisaged as a gamechanger in regional connectivity, rivalling China’s Belt and Road Initiative and being an alternative to Gwadar port in Pakistan. Shipping minister Sarbananda Sonowal travelled to Tehran for the signing of the new 10-year contract between India Ports Global Ltd (IPGL) and Ports & Maritime Organisation of Iran (PMO). ET was the first to report on the new Chabahar contract in its May 13 edition. Under the contract, IPGL will equip and operate the port for the duration of the contract. At the end of the 10-year period, both sides will extend their cooperation in Chabahar. IPGL will invest about $120 million in equipping the port, officials said. India has also offered a rupee credit window equivalent to $250 million for mutually identified projects aimed at improving Chabahar-related infrastructure, they said.
