India's CAA 'discriminatory': Pakistan
Pakistan on Thursday termed India's new Citizenship (Amendment) Act "discriminatory in nature", claiming that it differentiated between people based on their faith. The Indian government implemented the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 on Monday, paving the way for the grant of citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014. The government also came out with a press statement to say that Indian Muslims need not worry as the CAA will not impact their citizenship and has nothing to do with the community which enjoys equal rights as their Hindu counterparts.

The Agni-5 trial has strengthened India’s strategic deterrence
India’s Agni-5 test of a multiple-warhead ballistic missile places the country in a league of powers with only the US, UK, Russia, China and France as other members. Importantly, its success steps up India’s deterrence at a time China has openly begun to pursue a policy of power projection beyond its borders. Though not strictly an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) of the order possessed by the Big Five that can hit targets as far as 15,000km, its 5,000km-plus range brings the farthest parts of China and even some of Europe within our strike radius.

Addressing a public meeting at Ranaghat in Nadia district, the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly asserted that Muslims living in the country for centuries are bonafide citizens and urged them not to be «misled by false claims of Banerjee» as «they will continue to live without any fear or hassle». Claiming that the CAA was a precursor to implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) across the country, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee had on Tuesday said, «I apprehend that existing citizens would automatically be first designated as illegal immigrants and then left at the mercy of the committee to grant them citizenship afresh.» Adhikari also asserted that the law would enable three crore Bengali Hindus, who were forced to emigrate from erstwhile East Pakistan, to get their citizenship rights affirmed once and for all.

CAA: Security report to play key role in grant of citizenship
empowered committee on citizenship will consider a report by security agencies on the application made by refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan before granting them citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019. «The empowered committee may make such inquiry as it considers necessary for ascertaining the suitability of the applicant, including obtaining a report from the security agency, to be uploaded online by the agency and accessible to the committee,» stated the detailed order. The committees at the state and Union Territory level are required to maintain an «online register containing the details of persons so registered or naturalised as a citizen of India, which shall be accessible to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the security agency,» the CAA rules noted. The CAA 2019 seeks to grant Indian citizenship to refugees who had sought shelter in India before December 31, 2014, due to religious persecution in three neighbouring countries — Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
