Mikhail Pichugin, 46, was discovered severely malnourished, having lost 50 kilograms (110 pounds) during his time at sea. Authorities confirmed that the bodies of his 49-year-old brother, Sergei, and 15-year-old nephew, Ilya, were found on board the small rubber boat, marking a tragic end to the family’s voyage. The three, according to a Moscow Times report, had embarked on a whale-watching trip from the Khabarovsk region in early August. Their plan was to explore the Shantar Islands, located off the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk, with the intention of returning by August 9. When they failed to arrive back as scheduled, a search and rescue operation was launched, but the group’s boat was nowhere to be found. Pichugin’s ordeal ended late Monday when a fishing vessel spotted him near the Kamchatka Peninsula, approximately 23 kilometers (12 miles) offshore. This location was more than 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) east of the Shantar Islands, where the trio was last seen. Pichugin was immediately taken to a hospital in the Magadan region for treatment after his rescue.

markets Digital Election President reports Relationships US election 2024: Has Donald Trump spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin?
Donald Trump has refused to say whether he's spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin since leaving office, as reported in journalist Bob Woodward's latest book. But if the two did speak, Trump said, it would be “a smart thing” for the United States. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, was pressed on his communication with the Russian president during a wide-ranging — and sometimes contentious — interview with Bloomberg editor-in-chief John Micklethwait at the Economic Club of Chicago. Woodward reports in his book “War” that Trump has had as many as seven private phone calls with Putin since leaving the White House and secretly sent the Russian president COVID-19 test machines during the height of the pandemic. A Trump campaign spokesperson previously denied the report. During Tuesday's interview, Micklethwait posed the question to Trump directly: «Can you say yes or no whether you have talked to Vladimir Putin since you stopped being president?

markets UPS Manufacturing Sustainability Trade President China exports growth slows in blow to economy’s bright spot
China’s export growth unexpectedly slowed in September, curbing a trade rebound that has been a bright spot for a weakening economy that policymakers are relying on manufacturing to power. Exports climbed just 2.4% in dollar terms from a year earlier to almost $304 billion, the lowest level since May, the customs administration said Monday. Shipments to key markets including Japan, South Korea and Taiwan all fell, while exports to the European Union and the US marked their slowest rise in at least four months as politicians ramped up tariffs. Russian purchases of Chinese goods soared to a record $11 billion, as Beijing continues to shield Moscow from economic isolation after Western companies producing everything from cars to phones quit President Vladimir Putin’s nation due to sanctions to punish his military aggression.
