As reported by Reuters, over the past nearly two years since deploying Russian troops into Ukraine, Putin has consistently drawn parallels with the struggle against the Nazis as a means to unify his nation. Berghain in Berlin, or Output in NYC, or Zouk in Singapore. It's the grandfatherly sounding North Atlantic Treaty Organisation that is, almost 75 years after being founded, trending and trending hard as #Nato. Marx — of the Groucho variety — had famously said that he refused to join any club that would have him as a member.

Putin to visit UAE, Saudi Arabia this week: Russian news outlet
Vladimir Putin will visit the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia this week, Russian news outlet Shot reported on Monday, citing Putin's aide Yury Ushakov. The reported visit comes after the OPEC+ group of oil producers, which includes all three countries, agreed last Thursday to voluntary output cuts totalling about 2.2 million barrels a day. Markets reacted with scepticism to the deal because of doubts about whether the voluntary cuts would be fully implemented. Oil prices fell 2% last week after the announcement, and declined further on Monday. Putin has rarely travelled abroad in recent years, and mostly to states of the former Soviet Union.

China's attempts to harness resources from Russian Far-East & Arctic face hurdles & reservations
Construction of one of Russia’s key natural gas projects in Siberia to supply gas to China is likely to be slower than expected, they said, adding that discussions between the two sides over the construction of the Power of Siberia 2 natural gas pipeline have progressed slowly. The pipeline, if completed, would supply 50 billion cubic metres (1.8 trillion cubic feet) of natural gas per year to China. The new pipeline is needed, according to China’s assessment, because the Power of Siberia 1 pipeline is limited to 67 billion cubic metres per year. However, China is bargaining hard with Russia, which is facing western sanctions.

Henry Kissinger, who died on November 29, at age 100, greatly influenced global affairs under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford between 1969 and 1977, garnering both vilification and the Nobel Peace Prize. However, there were many incidents which reflected his hatred towards India. Kissinger was born May 27, 1923, in Fürth, Germany, and fled Nazi Germany with his family in 1938.

From Gaza to Ukraine, wars and crises are piling up
Read our coverage of the Israel-Hamas war and the Ukraine war A concatenation of crises is hardly unprecedented. Sergey Radchenko, a historian, points to the examples of the Soviet invasion of Hungary and the Suez crisis overlapping in 1956, crises in Lebanon and the Taiwan Strait in 1958 and the tumultuous years of 1978-79, when the Chinese invasion of Vietnam, the Islamic revolution in Iran and the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan unfolded in quick succession. In 1999 India and Pakistan, newly armed with nuclear missiles, waged a war over Kashmir while NATO bombed Serbian forces in Yugoslavia.
