Cole Palmer nets 4 first-half goals, Haaland kept scoreless and Arsenal leaves it late to beat Leicester
Chelsea knew it was getting a talented player by signing Cole Palmer from Manchester City last year. But maybe not this good. Palmer created some history on Saturday when he became the first player to score four goals in the first half of an English Premier League match. His flurry of strikes came in Chelsea's 4-2 win over Brighton that further strengthened the belief that the London team will be a force this season after spending more than $1 billion on players over the past two years.

Glue in and cash in as India’s top two two-wheeler makers Hero and Honda battle it out this festive season
festive season will be crucial for India's top two two-wheeler makers as the duo, accounting for more than half of the market, plan to intensify their slugfest and go all out to chase volumes and market share with aggressive promotional schemes in the world's largest market. Hero MotoCorp aims to retail 1.5 million two-wheelers, up 10% year-on-year (YoY) during the 32-day period which begins with Navratri on 3 October. This is equivalent to nearly three months of sales. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) plans to sell 15-20% more than in 2023 — a year that was marked by supply shortages. To be sure, the priorities for each are different but the goalposts remain the same. For Honda, which overtook Hero in wholesale volumes in the first five months of this fiscal, it would be about covering more ground and cementing its leadership position; for Hero, it would be about clawing back market share it ceded reclaiming the numero uno position.

World wide web of schools for our young: Indian students' dream to study abroad remains a steady one
Indian students are intent on adding that foreign education experience on their CV. As Canada, Britain and Australia set conditions and caps for foreign students, Indians are looking elsewhere. Barring the US, which continues to dominate the destination wishlist, students are now opting to study in countries that were previously not on their list for reasons such as language barrier, strict work-study norms and higher financial requirements. As some of the traditional favourite education destinations limit entry, others, particularly non-English-speaking countries, are improving the 'ease of onboarding international students'.

As drought threat grows, a 'dead tree' emoji is coming
climate change: an emoji depicting a tree without leaves. Approval of the emoji was revealed in an update earlier this year from the Unicode Consortium. The leafless tree — also known as the "dead tree" or «dying tree» emoji — was first pitched in 2022 by Brian Baihaki, who saw a gap in messaging graphics that touch on environmentalism. «Drought is a natural part of the climate cycle… but the climate is changing (and) drought (is becoming) more frequent, severe, and even (spreading) to other places,» Baihaki noted. «Eventually, all the resources that the trees have will be exhausted.»

ISL: Hernandez brace guides Jamshedpur FC to 3-2 win over Mumbai City FC
Jamshedpur FC registered a sensational win over Mumbai City FC 3-2 after falling a goal behind, to secure their first home victory of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season, at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Saturday. Spanish midfielder Javi Hernandez powered the comeback after Jordan Murray cancelled out Nikolaos Karelis' strike as the Men of Steel at home ousted the Islanders, mounting a comeback to take a lead into the second half after being 1-0 down. Mumbai City FC started the game on a dominating note. In the fifth minute, they got their first opportunity when Yoell van Nieff snatched the ball from Javi Hernandez and glanced an attempt from distance. His shot took a curl but went inches wide. Three minutes later, Jamshedpur FC earned their first positive chance after a corner was headed down by Pratik Chaudhari onto the path of Javier Siverio who laid it down for Jordan Murray. The latter's shot however, was deflected out for a corner. The corner by Imran Khan was met by Tiri, whose clearance almost cost Mumbai City FC a goal as the ball deflected off the crossbar.

Mouse causes emergency landing on Scandinavian Airlines flight. What really happened?
emergency landing after a passenger discovered a live mouse in her meal. The aircraft, which was en route from Oslo, Norway, to Málaga, Spain, diverted to Copenhagen, Denmark, on Wednesday. According to SAS spokesperson Oystein Schmidt, the decision to land was a standard safety procedure due to the potential risk posed by rodents, including the possibility of them damaging electrical wiring on the plane. “This is something that happens extremely rarely,” Schmidt stated. “We have established procedures for such situations, which also include a review with our suppliers to ensure this does not happen again.” Passenger Jarle Borrestad, who was seated next to the woman who found the mouse, shared his experience on Facebook, stating, “Believe it or not, a lady next to me opened her food and a mouse jumped out.” Despite the shock of the incident, Borrestad noted that passengers remained calm throughout, explaining, “People were not stressed at all.” He humorously added that he put his socks over his trousers to prevent the mouse from crawling up his legs.
