show Idalia Tropical Storm Idalia forms near Mexico, heads to Florida
Idalia formed Sunday in the Caribbean, buffeting southeastern Mexico with wind and rain, as forecasters predicted it will strengthen to a hurricane before reaching Florida later in the week. The storm, which is not forecast to make landfall in Mexico, will travel across the Gulf of Mexico before reaching northwest Florida, the US National Hurricane Center said. Idalia will create «increasing risk of life-threatening storm surge and hurricane-force winds along portions of the west coast of Florida and the Florida Panhandle beginning as early as Tuesday,» the NHC warned. «There is considerable spread in the model intensity guidance, ranging from minimal to major hurricane status before landfall on the northeast Gulf coast,» the NHC added. The NHC predicted Idalia will have made landfall in Florida by 7:00 am (1100 GMT) Wednesday, in an image showing the storm's likely path. At 0300 GMT Monday, Idalia was swirling in the Caribbean, headed northeast with maximum sustained winds of 60 miles (95 kilometers) per hour, the NHC said. Storm surge and hurricane watches have been issued for parts of Florida's coast and scattered flash flooding can be expected, the NHC said. Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency in 33 counties in preparation for the storm's arrival. In the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, home to Cancun and other coastal tourist resorts, Idalia dumped rain and put a damper on one of the last weekends of summer vacations. Heavy rainfall is expected across parts of the eastern Yucatan in Mexico and western Cuba. A week ago, Hilary, which at one point rose to a Category 4 hurricane on the five-point Saffir-Simpson scale, hit the state of Baja California on Mexico's Pacific coast as a tropical storm,

COST Disney LGBT CEO Parke show Walt Disney: How difficult will it be for Bob Iger to turn the company around?
Bob Iger led a 45-minute town hall session in Burbank, California. During the exchange, Iger took on questions from anxious employees on thorny issues like the recruitment ban, the outlook for conventional television enterprises, the possible sale of the company, and the company’s stance on LGBTQ concerns that had plagued the term of his predecessor Bob Chapek. Regarding the latter, Iger emphasised that a fundamental principle of Disney's storytelling was embracing inclusion, acceptance and tolerance, and it was crucial for the company to uphold this. But his big message to the employees in the end was: “The status quo is gone.” As he has set about reshaping Disney, the path has been arduous for Iger. The CEO has been dealing with a spectrum of challenges, from tackling streaming losses and dipping linear subscriptions to navigating advertising headwinds. Concurrently, he has had to manage an internal reorganisation that empowers creative divisions for content authority and distribution, while addressing vital cultural aspects like LGBT inclusion. Then there’s the key task of identifying a successor. The CEO has acknowledged that the task of turning around the Disney business has proven more challenging than he anticipated. Over the past year, Disney's stock price has fallen by 30%. On August 25, the stock closed at $83.27, mirroring levels last seen in May 2014. In the June quarter, revenue climbed 4% to $22.33 billion, yet missed forecasts. A $2.7-billion restructuring expense led to a $460-million loss, compared with last year's $1.4 billion profit. Iger's urgent focus is to halt the decline of the TV market, curb streaming losses, and arrest the stock price slide.

FTX Lawyers Fried Sam Sam Bankman-Fried's lawyers renew claim that the FTX founder can't prepare for trial behind bars
Sam Bankman-Fried said Friday that prosecutors have delivered another four million pages of documents for the FTX founder to examine six weeks before trial, making it impossible for the former cryptocurrency executive to adequately review the evidence for an October trial from behind bars. Bankman-Fried lost the right to remain free on bail when a judge decided two weeks ago that the fallen cryptocurrency wiz had repeatedly tried to influence witnesses against him. Prosecutors say he intentionally deceived customers and investors to enrich himself and others, while playing a central role in the company's multibillion-dollar collapse after the equivalent of a bank run. In a letter to U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan, attorneys Christian Everdell and Mark Cohen renewed their request for the 31-year-old to be freed so he can adequately prepare for his Oct. 3 trial. He'd been living with his parents in Palo Alto, California, under the terms of a $250 million bail deal that was in place since he was brought to the United States from the Bahamas in December. His lawyers appealed the ruling to jail him to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. And earlier this week, they complained at a hearing that he has had to survive at a Brooklyn lockup on bread, water and peanut butter because they won't provide him with vegan food.
