Meme stock AMC jumps 21% as investors cheer stock conversion plan halt
AMC Entertainment Holdings soared on Monday after a U.S. court blocked the theater chain's stock conversion plan that risked diluting investors' holdings. A Delaware court judge said on Friday declined to approve the proposed settlement by AMC in a case that has alleged the company planned to convert preferred stock to common to circumvent the will of common stock holders who had opposed the issuing of new shares.

FTX sues Sam Bankman-Fried, others to recoup more than $1 billion
FTX Trading on Thursday sued founder Sam Bankman-Fried and other former executives of the cryptocurrency exchange, seeking to recoup more than $1 billion they allegedly misappropriated before FTX went bankrupt. The complaint filed in Delaware bankruptcy court also names as defendants Caroline Ellison, who led Bankman-Fried's Alameda Research hedge fund; former FTX technology chief Zixiao «Gary» Wang; and former FTX engineering director Nishad Singh. FTX said the defendants continually misappropriated funds to finance luxury condominiums, political contributions, speculative investments and other «pet projects,» while committing «one of the largest financial frauds in history.» The alleged fraudulent transfers occurred between February 2020 and November 2022 when FTX filed for Chapter 11 protection, and can be undone--or «avoided»--under the U.S.

Twitter again sued over severance pay, bias during layoffs
Twitter Inc on Tuesday was hit with the second lawsuit this month to claim that it owes at least $500 million in severance pay to ex-workers, the latest in a series of cases arising from Elon Musk's acquisition of the social media company. The proposed class action filed in Delaware federal court by former Twitter senior engineer Chris Woodfield also alleges that the company targeted older workers for layoffs, a claim that has not been made in the other pending cases. Woodfield, who worked for Twitter out of Seattle, says the company repeatedly told employees that they would receive two months' salary and other payouts if they were laid off, but that he and other workers have not received the money.
