Trump’s 2024 Eligibility Ignites Debate—and Litigation
Since the day Donald Trump supporters rampaged through the Capitol in 2021, legal scholars have pondered whether a post-Civil War clause in the Constitution that disqualifies insurrectionists from public office can prevent him from ever reclaiming the presidency. As polls show Trump surging toward another Republican presidential nomination, the question of his eligibility under the 14th Amendment is no longer merely academic. A left-leaning legal watchdog on Wednesday filed suit in Denver demanding that Trump be excluded from Colorado’s primary ballot, the first of an expected barrage of challenges, petitions and lawsuits seeking to disqualify the former president across the electoral map.

Opinion: Early warning signs for Canada from U.S. debt downgrade
Fitch’s recent downgrade of U.S. public debt, dropping it one notch below “AAA,” is good reason to examine the relationship between U.S. debt and the dollar’s future as a reserve currency. The greenback is just the latest in a series of preferred currencies that have been used for foreign exchange reserves and to denominate other assets. But reserve currencies, unlike diamonds, aren’t necessarily forever, and that affects their issuers’ capacity to manage their public debt.

Marilyn Manson will not contest charges of blowing his nose on videographer during New Hampshire performance
Marilyn Manson will plead no contest to blowing his nose on a videographer at a 2019 concert in New Hampshire, according to a filing by his attorney. The rocker, whose legal name is Brian Warner, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of simple assault stemming from the encounter at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford on Aug. 19, 2019. A notice of intent filed Monday says that Manson is expected to plead no contest to only one charge, and that prosecutors would dismiss the other in the fully negotiated plea. A no contest plea means Manson will not contest the charge and does not admit guilt. Manson would face a sentence of a $,1,200 fine with part of it suspended and 20 hours of community service within six months. Manson also would need to remain arrest-free and notify local police of any New Hampshire performances for two years. A judge would have to accept the plea, which is expected to be entered Thursday in Belknap County Superior Court. That's in place of a final pretrial hearing that was scheduled in advance of his planned Aug. 7 trial.
