Baltimore ship accident has East Coast ports scrambling to absorb cargo
The Port of Virginia, with terminals at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay near Norfolk, is opening a gate Monday at 5 a.m. — an hour earlier than usual — to help accommodate more truckers. The Port of New York and New Jersey, which is expecting additional cargo including autos, is working to allow quick access for transport companies that usually go through Baltimore. A major railroad is expanding its services, too. Fallout from last week’s deadly bridge collapse, which indefinitely closed the nation’s 17th-largest port by total cargo tonnage and the busiest gateway for vehicles, is expected to be largely contained as neighboring facilities with spare capacity tweak their schedules. Snarls, delays and added costs are more likely to appear outside ports as tens of thousands of shipments require longer routes on already-crowded roadways and rail lines.

Emotional response to climate change affects policy preference to tackle it
climate change whether it is guilt, anger, hope or fear could have a bearing on their climate policy preferences, a new research has found It found that while the guilty atone through options requiring them to shell out money like fossil fuel tax, those feeling hopeful or sad about climate change place their faith in proactive policies, such as investing in infrastructure. Individuals angry about climate change too were found to be comfortable with money-extracting policies. However, the research, led by George Mason University, Virginia, US, found that those fearful of climate change were the ones most likely to support any and all kinds of policies, especially regulatory ones such as those around carbon emissions.

A way for energy investors to ride the AI boom
Investors looking to ride the artificial-intelligence wave have turned their eyes to a sleepier corner of the market—companies that own and operate power plants. Is the run-up justified? AI hype has helped lift Vistra stock 85% year to date. That falls short of Nvidia’s eye-watering 92% surge, but is far greater than the 12% lift that Microsoft has seen over that time.
