American explorer, who suffered internal bleeding during a cave expedition over 1,000 meters below the surface. Turkey's caving federation reported on Thursday that 150 rescuers are on a mission to reach Mark Dickey, aged 40, who developed gastrointestinal bleeding deep within the Morca cave, situated near Turkey's Mediterranean coast. In a statement, the federation described the operation as one of the world's largest and most complex cave rescue efforts in terms of logistics and technical challenges. Dickey fell ill at a depth of 1,120 meters while exploring alongside an international team of cavers. He was then placed under observation at a base camp positioned 1,040 meters underground, where rescuers and medical personnel administered a blood transfusion. The rescue operation was initiated by the federation in collaboration with Turkey's emergency response service, commencing on Tuesday. According to reports from the DHA news agency, Dickey's health issue first emerged on Sunday. The caving federation provided an update on Mark's condition, stating, «Mark's condition is improving. His bleeding has ceased, and he can move with assistance. However, his evacuation necessitates the use of a stretcher.» The Morca cave, according to the federation, ranks as Turkey's third-deepest, extending to a depth of 1,276 meters. Rescuers anticipate that it may take several days to safely extract Dickey from the cave.
