International Monetary Fund will begin holding meetings in Ukraine on Sunday to discuss policy goals and challenges with government officials and others there, the Fund's country representative Vahram Stepanyan said on Sunday. Ukraine's economy has been hit hard since Russia launched a full-scale invasion in February 2022, and the government has relied heavily on Western aid to finance social and humanitarian payments. The IMF said last week its mission had begun its second review of a $15.6 billion multi-year loan program for the country.

US: Spending bill passes in House, heads to Senate as shutdown fear looms
United States House on Saturday approved a 45-day stopgap funding bill to avert a government shutdown, sending the legislation to the Senate for consideration hours before the midnight funding deadline, The Hill reported. Notably, the decision is poised to prevent the government from falling off the shutdown cliff, which many lawmakers thought was inevitable after weeks of disagreements within the House GOP conference and between both chambers. The measure would keep the government funded at current spending levels through November 17. It includes USD 16 billion in disaster relief — matching the figure the White House included in a supplemental request.

Russia may annex more Ukrainian regions, Medvedev says
Dmitry Medvedev suggested Saturday that Moscow may annex more regions of Ukraine, as he marked one year since the Kremlin claimed four Ukrainian territories as its own. Moscow held elections in the four regions this month, but does not fully control any of them and is currently battling a Ukrainian counteroffensive to take them back. «The special military operation will continue until the complete destruction of the Nazi regime in Kyiv,» said Medvedev, who now serves as deputy chair of Russia's Security Council. «Victory will be ours.

Ukraine lures Western weapons makers to transform defence industry
Zelenskiy said on Saturday he wants to turn Ukraine's defence industry into a «large military hub» by partnering with Western weapons manufacturers to increase arms supplies for Kyiv's counteroffensive against Russia. He was speaking at a forum his government convened with international producers to discuss how to jointly develop industrial capacity to build and repair weapons in Ukraine despite constant Russian bombardment. «Ukraine is in such a phase of the defence marathon when it is very important, critical to go forward without retreating. Results from the frontline are needed daily,» Zelenskiy told executives representing more than 250 Western weapons producers. «We are interested in localizing production of equipment needed for our defence and each of those advanced defence systems which are used by our soldiers, giving Ukraine the best results at the front today,» he told the forum in Kyiv. Zelenskiy said that air defence and de-mining were his immediate priorities.

How AI will be a gamechanger in transforming global supply chain
While the trade war between The US and China, Covid-19, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine changed the way we think of redundancy, flexibility, and security of supply, we are now staring into what could possibly be the biggest game-changer yet: The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence which has most recently accelerated investments from companies all over the world and spun a global discussion about how the technology will change our society – for better or worse. "Russia's ties with India exceptional but broken with West: Jaishankar
Jaishankar on Friday said India-Russia ties may not be spectacular but are very «exceptional and steady», adding that in many ways Moscow's relationship with the West has «broken down». Speaking at Hudson University, Jaishankar compared Russia's ties with India to that with other countries. "...if you consider international relations over the last 70 years, the US-Russian relations, the China-Russia relations, the US-China relations, pretty much every big relationship in the last 70 years has seen a great deal of volatility, you had sharp ups and downs," Jaishankar said, adding, «India-Russia relations is very exceptional. It's been very steady.» Noting the India-Russia relations may «not be spectacular», Jaishankar said they have stabilised at a certain level, but have not seen the ups and downs that Moscow's relationships with China, US, or Europe have been through. «And that's in itself a statement,» Jaishankar added. «Now, if one looks at Russia today...as a consequence of what is going on in Ukraine...it seems to them clear that in many ways Russia's relationship with the West has broken down,» he said. On why Russia's emphasis on India is increasing, Jaishankar said, "...India will and has come into calculations as well.
