The 1 February 2025 Budget’s tax relief measures intended to revive consumption and disposable income, have failed to reverse the tide of foreign portfolio investor (FPI) outflows from key consumption-led sectors like fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and consumer durables. US credit risk hits new high amid economic worries over tariffs and job cuts, here's what you should know
Investment Grade Index, a key measure of credit risk for top-rated borrowers, widened by 2.06 basis points to 53.54, marking the highest level of US credit risk in 2025, according to a Bloomberg report. When this index rises, it signals that investors see higher risks in lending to these companies. Meanwhile, the Markit CDX North American High Yield Index, which tracks riskier borrowers, dropped by 0.5 points to 106.4, its lowest point in six months. As per Bloomberg, unlike the investment-grade index, this one falls when credit risk increases, showing that investors are becoming more cautious about lending to lower-rated companies.

Is Elon Musk and Marco Rubio’s relationship beyond repair? Inside the bitter cabinet battle in front of Donald Trump that rocked Washington
federal agencies. The pair also joined forces on social media to push back against criticism of US support for Ukraine. Musk claimed his Starlink satellite internet system was critical to Ukraine’s military operations, suggesting the front lines would collapse without it. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski criticized Musk’s remarks as a veiled threat, noting Poland pays millions annually for Starlink services in Ukraine and warned of seeking alternatives if SpaceX became unreliable. Rubio quickly defended Musk, denying any threats to cut Ukraine’s access and praising Starlink as vital to Ukraine’s survival in the war.

Gaza hostage talks: Trump-Israel tensions begin to surface
Adam Boehler, the US envoy for hostages, and a top Hamas representative, Israeli leaders quietly expressed their displeasure, saying Hamas is a terrorist organisation whose words can't be trusted or taken at face value. Boehler acknowledged in television interviews Sunday that Israel had «raised some concerns,» but said it's helpful to hear what Hamas wants and what it's offering. «We're not an agent of Israel. We have specific interests at play,» he noted on CNN. The friction over Boehler's outreach to Hamas, a group the US and others designate as terrorist, is the first sign of disagreement. While Trump has made his support for Israel clear, the president's unpredictable moves — including stunning European allies by opening direct peace talks with Russia — left officials wary.

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman fires back at Elon Musk over 'Tesla Protest' allegations. Is a tech billionaire feud brewing or is it just a tweet war?
Elon Musk’s latest claim—that billionaire Reid Hoffman secretly funded protests against Tesla—has ignited a high-stakes war of words in Silicon Valley. But in a swift rebuttal, the LinkedIn co-founder has dismissed Musk’s allegations as pure fiction, calling them yet another in a long list of «false claims.» The drama unfolded on X (formerly Twitter), where Musk accused Hoffman of financially backing groups organizing anti-Tesla demonstrations. Hoffman wasted no time in setting the record straight. «Just one more of Elon's false claims about me: I never funded anyone for Tesla protests. I don’t condone violence. But it's clear Americans are angry at him—it’s easier to explain away their anger than to accept that actions have consequences,» Hoffman wrote in response to Musk’s tweet.

Fitch assigns Negative Outlook to Adani Energy, cites US probe risks
Fitch Ratings has removed energy infrastructure company Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) from its 'Ratings Watch Negative' list and assigned a Negative Outlook, it said in a statement on Monday. The agency cited concerns over ongoing US investigations that could reveal governance weaknesses and affect financial stability. The agency warned that the outcome of the probe could impact the company's credit profile. It had affirmed the long-term foreign- and local-currency issuer default ratings at 'BBB-'. «The risks associated with the group's liquidity and funding requirements have moderated,» Fitch said in a statement, adding that the proceedings and outcome of the US investigations could reveal that the group's corporate governance practices are weaker than it expected, potentially leading to negative rating action in the near to medium term.
