Saudi pauses talks on normalisation with Israel: source
Saudi Arabia has suspended talks on potentially normalising ties with Israel, a source told AFP on Saturday, amid the war raging between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Hamas launched a large-scale attack on Israel on October 7 which killed 1,300 people, sparking a retaliatory bombing campaign that has killed at least 1,900 in the Gaza Strip ahead of a potential Israeli ground invasion of the territory. «Saudi Arabia has decided to pause discussion on possible normalisation and has informed US officials,» a source familiar with the discussions told AFP. Saudi Arabia in the weeks before the attacks had spoken of progress in US-led diplomacy to normalise relations with Israel — which would be a landmark step for the conservative kingdom that is guardian of Islam's two holiest sites. But Riyadh has voiced increasing disquiet about the fate of Palestinians in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, where Israel has launched thousands of strikes and ordered the evacuation of the territory's north, prompting thousands to flee. On Friday, Saudi Arabia denounced the displacement of Palestinians within Gaza and attacks on «defenceless civilians», its strongest language criticising Israel since the war broke out. Riyadh «affirms its categorical rejection of calls for the forced displacement of the Palestinian people from Gaza, and its condemnation of the continued targeting of defenceless civilians there,» the foreign ministry said in a statement.

US astronaut gets used to Earth after record-setting 371 days in space
Rubio now has to get used to that pesky thing Earthlings call gravity. «Walking hurts a little bit the first few days, the soles of your feet and lower back,» he said at a news conference Friday at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. «I think there is a certain level of pain that comes with the fact that your lower back now supports half your weight.» Rubio returned to Earth two weeks ago after spending 371 days in space, having taken off in September of last year aboard a Russian rocket for what was supposed to be a routine, six-month mission. The Soyuz spacecraft that was supposed to bring them back was docked at the International Space Station to be used as an emergency backup vehicle. But then it sprung a coolant leak in December, probably due to a micrometeoroid. So as a precaution, the Russian space agency, Roscosmos, returned the vessel to Earth.

NASA unveils surprising discovery after opening cannister of asteroid Bennu; Here's what scientists found
Also read: NASA launches spacecraft to explore metal-rich asteroid Psyche; Here's what it expects to find According to NASA administrator, Carbon accounted for almost 5% of the sample's total weight, and was present in both organic and mineral form, while the water was locked inside the crystal structure of clay minerals. Scientists believe the reason Earth has oceans, lakes, and rivers is because it was hit by water-carrying asteroids 4 to 4.5 billion years ago, making it a habitable planet. All life on Earth meanwhile is based on carbon, which forms bonds with other elements to produce proteins and enzymes as well as the building blocks of genetic code, DNA, and RNA.
