Escalation of Israel-Hamas war could hit corridor plans
NEW DELHI : Israel’s declaration of war on Hamas in response to attacks on its territory may cloud New Delhi’s ambitious plans to build an India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor (IMEEC), Indian exporters and trade experts said. The plan to develop shipping and railway links between the three regions was announced as part of the Delhi declaration of the G20 summit in India. Fears are growing in the Indian capital that the war could drive insurance premiums and shipping costs higher as was seen on the trade routes affected by the Russia-Ukraine war last year.

The schedule for a few matches on WWE Monday Night Raw is reportedly out. There will be NXT Women's Champion Becky Lynch vs Tegan Nox. Nia Jax will face Raquel Rodriguez. Viking Rules match will be played between Kofi Kingston and Ivar. Meanwhile, WWE's popular television show, «Friday Night Smackdown», will be moving from Fox to USA Network next year under a new five-year domestic media rights partnership with NBCUniversal. 'Smackdown', the weekly two-hour live program that features wrestlers such as Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair, Rey Mysterio and Bianca Belair, regularly performs strongly in the key 18-49 demographic. It's also experienced strong ratings of late with regular appearances by John Cena and an unadvertised appearance by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. 'Smackdown' will begin airing on USA Network in October 2024. Fox had a five-year deal for 'Smackdown' that started in October 2019. Prior to that, 'Smackdown' had aired on USA Network from 2016 to 2019. Financial terms of the deal between WWE and NBCUniversal were not disclosed. As part of the agreement, WWE will also produce four prime-time specials per year that will air on NBC, starting in the 2024/2025 season. This will be the first time that WWE will air on the network in prime time.

The Exorcist: Believer box office: Horror movie starts big in US, collects over $45 million globally
Additionally, «The Exorcist: Believer» made its international debut with $17.8 million, resulting in a global launch of $45.1 million. Given its $30 million production cost, the 'Exorcist' sequel is in a promising position for its theatrical run. The horror film directed by David Gordon Green is set to hit theaters exactly 50 years after the release of the original «Exorcist,» a cinematic landmark that grossed nearly $450 million at the global box office (before adjusting for inflation). Directed by William Friedkin, the original film was adapted from the novel by William Peter Blatty and featured stars like Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn. However, «The Believer» recently had to advance its release by one week. This change was prompted by Taylor Swift's announcement that her new concert film, «The Eras Tour,» will have a global premiere on October 13. Both films target a similar audience, particularly younger moviegoers and especially young females. «The Exorcist: Believer,» is rated R by the Motion Picture Association for or some violent content, disturbing images, language and sexual references. Running time: 111 minutes. Two stars out of four.

War in Israel a new front in US election campaign
Hamas assault on Israel has opened up a new front in the US election campaign as Republicans accuse President Joe Biden of being soft in his defense of Israel and in his handling of Iran. «I think this is a great opportunity for our candidates to contrast where Republicans have stood with Israel — time and time again — and Joe Biden has been weak,» Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, said Saturday on Fox News. Americans will choose a new president and control of Congress in November 2024, with Biden, 80, seeking another term in a race that looks likely to pit him against former president Donald Trump as the Republican candidate. Trump used the stunning Hamas attack by land, sea and air at dawn Saturday to target Biden. «The Israeli attack was made because we are perceived as weak and ineffective and with a very weak leader,» he said. Other Republican presidential hopefuls, like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former vice president Mike Pence, also dimissed Biden as weak. A stern-faced Biden gave a short speech from the White House on Saturday to stress firm US support for Israel. «Today, the people of Israel are under attack, orchestrated by a terrorist organization, Hamas,» Biden said. «In this moment of tragedy, I want to say to them and to the world and to terrorists everywhere that the United States stands with Israel.

Antarctic sea ice sets new record. Check its impact on global weather, climate
To put this into perspective, the 'missing' sea ice measures approximately 386,000 square miles less than the previous record low recorded in 2022, which is larger than the land area of Egypt. As the southern hemisphere transitions into spring, the US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) said in a statement that Antarctic sea ice had only reached a maximum size of 16.96 million square kilometers (6.55 million square miles) this year, on September 10. The ice pack typically reaches its largest size during the colder winter months, so the September 10 reading will likely remain this year's maximum. «This is the lowest sea ice maximum in the 1979 to 2023 sea ice record by a wide margin,» said the NSIDC, a government-supported program at the University of Colorado at Boulder. At its high-point this year, the sea ice was 1.03 million square kilometers smaller than the previous record, roughly the size of Texas and California combined. The vast glacial ice sheet of Antarctica and the ice covering the surrounding seas play a vital role in climate regulation. They act as a reflective surface, bouncing the sun's energy back into the atmosphere and space. In contrast, the dark surface of the ocean absorbs a significant portion of the sun's incoming energy. Therefore, a reduction in sea ice leads to higher temperatures, creating a self-reinforcing cycle that accelerates global warming.

₹38 crore in donations since 2017 from non-profits and shell companies linked to a wealthy American named Neville Roy Singham who considers himself a “Marxist" and has close links to the Chinese government. Whatever the actual figure, it does appear that Singham funnelled crores into an outfit that is practically not worth a fraction of that. So what was Singham buying; what was Newsclick selling? If Newsclick is a journalistic organization, then it appears shady.

The U.S. Economy’s Secret Weapon: Seniors With Money to Spend
Why has consumer spending proven so resilient as the Federal Reserve has raised interest rates? An important and little-appreciated reason: Consumers are getting older. In August, 17.7% of the population was 65 or older, according to the Census Bureau, the highest on record going back to 1920 and up sharply from 13% in 2010. The elderly aren’t just more numerous: Their finances are relatively healthy and they have less need to borrow, such as to buy a house, and are less at risk of layoffs than other consumers.
