Market close: Nifty 50, Sensex extend losses into second consecutive session; investors lose over ₹2 lakh crore in a day
Nifty 50 today: Frontline indices the Nifty 50 and the Sensex ended in the red on Wednesday, October 4, extending losses into the second consecutive session, amid a sharp rise in the US bond yields and dollar. Bond markets are witnessing a strong selloff globally, causing yields to rise sharply. "An unrelenting selloff in world government bond markets pushed US 30-year Treasury yields to 5 per cent for the first time since 2007 and Germany's 10-year borrowing costs to 3 per cent on Wednesday, moves that could hasten a global economic slowdown," reported Reuters.

As global headwinds rise, can India continue outperformance? Rohit Agarwal answers
Rohit Agarwal, Senior Fund Manager, Kotak Life Insurance, says “even though India might outperform in the global terms, India will not be immune to global challenges. India will not be immune to the yield rates. For example, if the US 10-year is yielding 5% today, why should a US investor put his money outside his country at all? You are getting risk-free 5% in that country and that is a call that many asset allocators might take and that might impact some flows here and there. But on a standalone basis, India will still stand out in the world as a better place to be in.” What is happening to the global arena right now? Do you think this is just the start of a downturn or this is something that the Indian market will take in its stride and the outperformance will continue? As you said, these are volatile times and though we have not seen some of these yields in the last two decades or so, that does not mean that we do not know how to handle it. It means is there are macro issues on the corner, at the horizon, obviously especially on the global side.

U.S. President Joe Biden to announce $9 billion more in student debt relief
Joe Biden plans to announce on Wednesday that his administration has approved an additional $9 billion in student debt relief for 125,000 borrowers, the White House said. Biden has said he will pursue new measures to provide student loan relief to Americans after the Supreme Court blocked his plan to cancel hundreds of billions of dollars in debt. The president's announcement, planned for 1 p.m. EDT at the White House, will bring the total approved debt cancellation by the Biden administration to $127 billion for nearly 3.6 million Americans, the White House said. According to a White House fact sheet, the new measures include: — $5.2 billion in additional debt relief for 53,000 borrowers under Public Service Loan Forgiveness programs — nearly $2.8 billion in new debt relief for nearly 51,000 borrowers through fixes to «income-driven repayment,» which the White House says are borrowers who made 20 years or more of payments «but never got the relief they were entitled to.» — And $1.2 billion for nearly 22,000 borrowers who have a disability who have been identified and approved for discharge through a data match with the Social Security Administration.

Inclusion of Indian bonds in JPMorgan bond index to have limited impact on Indian bonds, rupee, says ASK Wealth
ASK Wealth Advisors Private Limited. "The inclusion into bond indices is good to have, feeds incrementally into the “Bharat shining" narrative. It’s also a good sandbox regulatory experiment for RBI, to manage monetary policy while losing some policy-making flexibility.
