markets Action Sustainability country Courts International Anxiety over next phase of Israel-Iran escalation: Potential implications on energy, fertiliser prices, shipping, even US prez polls
fertiliser prices, shipping through the Straits of Hormuz in addition to the current disruptions in the Red Sea, the peace and tranquillity in the Gulf and West Asia, and even the US presidential elections. The conflict has seen a step-bystep escalation, starting with the Hamas attack of October 7 last year. Israel, in response, has continued with its air and ground operations in Gaza. More than 40,000 have died from this action, nearly two million displaced and property and infrastructure severely damaged. The population there is suffering from food shortages and break down of health care. Intense multi-country efforts for ceasefire, led by the US, Egypt and Qatar, have floundered, buffeted by Israeli desire for a permanent end or irreplaceable degradation of Hamas military and governance structures, and countervailing Hamas’ demands for the ceasefire to be ‘permanent’. Around 100 Israelis remain hostages since October 7with no clarity on how many may still be alive. Anger against Israel and criticism of its actions in many countries has only grown.

markets wellness RAI Schools Equality International With India's help, UK agrees to sovereignty of Mauritius over Diego Garcia
United Kingdom has agreed to sovereignty of Mauritius over the Chagos archipelago, which includes the largest US military base in the Indian Ocean at Diego Garcia and has remained a colonial legacy in the region. In a joint statement, the UK and Mauritius said that the 'historic political agreement' has been reached with the full support and assistance of the United States of America and India. The two nations reached an agreement after two years of negotiations, following increasing concern about the Chagos archipelago being used as a route for illegal migration. The agreement will not mark any change to the significant US military presence at Diego Garcia as it includes a 99 year clause that ensures continuation of the base.

markets Digital Fighting RAI reports Schools Is the divorce getting nasty? Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are arguing over these issues
divorce, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are allegedly fighting over these money matters. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck apparently didn’t sign a prenuptial agreement ahead of their July 2022 wedding in Las Vegas. It's absurd that any of their financial advisors would have permitted that to occur, but that's most likely the reason the divorcing couple is allegedly engaged in a legal dispute over two of their assets. The $60 million house they've listed for $68 million and the production company Artists Equity Ben formed with Matt Damon two years ago, in which Jennifer also has a stake, are the assets at stake. They had no prenup, which complicates things, as reported by In Touch Weekly.

markets Citi Align Duke Research reports Schools Rumors swirl: Prince Harry's solo tour across the globe raises a big question - where is Megan Markle?
Prince Harry's frequent alone visits are sparking rumors about Meghan Markle. Harry is enjoying his whirlwind journey across the globe, which has taken him to New York City, the U.K., and now South Africa. Although his return to the public front as a humanitarian is changing the story that has followed him since leaving the royal family, some palace observers are nevertheless worried about his solo appearances. Though there appears to be much ado about nothing, there have been speculations about their marriage before. Both partners are pursuing individual ventures that align with their inclinations while also altering their professions. After his recent engagements in Manhattan, Vanity Fair complimented the Duke of Sussex for becoming a representative of himself and his ideas that reveal a direct point of view now, formed both by his years in the royal family, the research he's done, and the experiences he's had outside of it. With the launch of her new lifestyle company, American Riviera Orchard, the Duchess of Sussex is embracing her more tender side.

markets UPS Digital Waters Software performer View: Limiting energy consumption in AI is vital — look to the frugal human brain for pathways
OpenAI is at the top with $14 bn, followed by Anthropic with $4.2 bn, and Databricks with $4 bn. As countries, the biggest investor in AI over the last 5 years is the US at $329 bn, with China at $133 bn, and Britain at $26 bn. What's alarming, however, is that power consumption for AI, estimated by Schneider Electric at 4.5 GW in 2023, is likely to go up to 14-18.7 GW by 2028. That's also attributable to a search on Google consuming 0.3 watt-hours (Wh), while a single ChatGPT query requires 2.9 Wh. Over a 1-year period, ChatGPT queries would roughly consume 10 TWh (terawatt hours), which can power all of New Zealand for 3 months. Another significant reason for the increase in AI power consumption is the new generation of GPUs (graphics processing units) being used. The CPU in a computer handles tasks for the software on the server to run, while a GPU helps perform repetitive tasks and concurrent calculations in parallel, very much faster.

UPS Software Tesla WhatsApp Highways Traffic Fifth recall for Tesla Cybertruck within a year, the latest due to rearview display
Tesla is recalling more than 27,000 Cybertrucks because the rearview camera image may not activate immediately after shifting into reverse, the fifth recall for the vehicle since it went on sale late last year. Tesla has released a free software upgrade to address the issue and owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 25. Cybertruck owners have had to deal with a series of recalls since the vehicle went on sale in November. In June, there was a recall to fix problems with trim pieces that can come loose and front windshield wipers that can fail. Two months before that, some Cybertrucks were recalled because the accelerator pedal could stick. In the most recent recall, the company notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the display screens in effected trucks may remain blank for up to 8 seconds after a driver shifts to reverse. The US requires those screens to activate with a rearview within 2 seconds of shifting into reverse.

markets Target War reports Israel's secret weapon against Iran can be a deadly option
Iran launched a barrage of missiles at Israel, it warned Iran of consequences with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying that Iran would «pay for the attack». Some analysts said Israel's response would likely be sharper this time, suggesting it could target Iran's nuclear or oil facilities. The US, meanwhile, is pushing for a measured Israeli response to avoid a broader regional war, but its influence may be limited in shaping Israel's next steps. This latest round of hostilities threatens to expand far beyond the Israel-Palestine struggle, pulling in regional powers like Iran, and sparking fears of a full-scale war across the Middle East. US President Joe Biden has said that he would not support an attack by Israel on Iranian nuclear sites in retaliation for Tehran's firing of missiles at Israeli cities. «The answer is no,» Biden said on Wednesday, when asked if he would support such retaliation after Iran fired missiles at Israel.
