China to launch anti-dumping probes into Canadian canola, chemicals
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last month announced tariffs of 100 percent on Chinese EVs, accusing Beijing of «not playing by the same rules as other countries» in areas like environmental and labour standards. The United States and the European Union have also respectively slapped tariffs of 100 percent and 36 percent on Chinese EVs, arguing that Beijing unfairly subsidises domestic producers whose products then flood foreign markets and undercut local competitors.

The International Longshoremen's Association, which has more than 47,000 members, said it had discovered that the gate was using technology to check and let in trucks without union workers, which it said violated its labor contract. «We will never allow automation to come into our union and try to put us out of work as long as I'm alive,» said Harold J. Daggett, the union's president and chief negotiator in talks with the United States Maritime Alliance, a group of companies that move cargo at ports.

Volatility hits robusta coffee as prices slump from recent high
Robusta coffee slid in London, pulling back from last week’s high, amid a US holiday that contributed to volatile prices. Futures had soared to the highest since the 1970s on concerns about tighter supplies out of Vietnam and Brazil due to unfavorable weather. Prices topped $5,000 a ton on Friday, pushing robusta’s relative-strength index toward overbought territory. The commodity slipped as much as 5.5% on Monday. “We are in a low stock environment, which guarantees volatility,” said Carlos Mera, an analyst at Rabobank. Traders also need to consider other factors, such as shipping disruptions around the Red Sea, congestion in Brazilian ports and the European Union’s incoming deforestation rules, he said.

North Korea shows new drone attacking a target as Seoul and US hold large military exercises
Kim Jong Un supervised a demonstration of new exploding drones designed to crash into targets, state media said Monday, as the U.S. and South Korea engage in joint military drills. North Korean test photos showed a white drone with X-shaped tails and wings supposedly crashing into and destroying a target resembling South Korea's main K-2 battle tank. Most combat drones stand off from targets and fire missiles. The North's official Korean Central News Agency said Saturday's test involved various types of drones built to fly different ranges to attack enemy targets on land and sea and flew along various routes before accurately hitting test targets. After the test, Kim pledged to spur the development of drones that explode on impact, conduct reconnaissance or attack targets underwater to boost his country's war readiness, saying the North's military should be equipped with advanced drones «as early as possible,» KCNA said.

Vedanta Holdco plans $1.5-billion notes issuance
Vedanta Resources plans to raise up to $1.5 billion in a five-year dollar denominated bond sale, marking the first such refinancing-focused global issuance since a January restructuring at the UK holding company of Vedanta Ltd. Proceeds from the latest issue will be used to refinance $470 million in bonds that are due in 2027 and $1 billion due 2028. Both sets of bonds — carrying 13.87% interest rates — will now be redeemed on October 2 this year. “Vedanta Resources’ objective is to redeem the two bonds, which are trading on a par, with the new ones, which will be issued at 9.5-10.5%, bringing down the borrowing cost,” said a banker.
