T20 World Cup squad: Spin-friendly pitches in Americas? India opts for 4 spinners vs 3 pacers
Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India's 15-member squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, to be held in the West Indies and USA from June 1. Rohit Sharma will lead, with Hardik Pandya as deputy. Sanju Samson will support Pant as the second wicketkeeper-batsman… Pant returns after 16 months post a car crash in 2022. India opted for four spinners — Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal. The pace attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah, features Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj. Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube offer seam-bowling options. Sanju Samson secured a spot, while KL Rahul and Rinku Singh missed out. Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan are named reserves. India's campaign begins against Ireland on June 5 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, followed by a highly anticipated clash against Pakistan on June 9. They will also face USA and Canada on June 12 and 15 respectively. India, placed in Group A with Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and co-hosts USA, aims for a strong start against Ireland before the crucial match against Pakistan.

New study challenges view of dinosaurs as intelligent creatures
Dinosaurs were «more like smart giant crocodiles» but not as intelligent as monkeys as an earlier study had found, according to new research. In a study published in January 2023, neuroscientist and author Suzana Herculano-Houzel of Vanderbilt University, US, had said that brains of theropod dinosaurs, a species of which is T. rex, had neurons comparable to those in the brains of monkeys and baboons. Dinosaurs like T. rex, or Tyrannosaurus rex, had an exceptionally high number of neurons, «which would make these animals not only giant but also long-lived and endowed with flexible cognition, and thus even more magnificent predators than previously thought,» the author wrote in the study published in the Journal of Comparative Neurology. In the latest research, an international team of palaeontologists, behavioural scientists and neurologists re-examined the brains of dinosaurs, including T. rex, and found them to behave more like reptiles.

A massive US nuclear plant is finally complete. It might be the last of its kind
A new nuclear reactor reached commercial operation in Georgia on Monday, completing a project whose delays and sticker shock helped upend the near-term prospects for nuclear power in the U.S. The first two reactors at Plant Vogtle, operated by Southern Co., opened in the 1980s. Adding two new reactors cost more than $30 billion, more than twice the initial estimates, and are a major reason no other large nuclear-power facilities are under development in the U.S.
