Android Authority, who found references to this functionality in the source code of Microsoft's Phone Link app, according to reports. Phone Link, formerly known as Your Phone, is an application that facilitates the connection between an Android phone and a Windows laptop, allowing users to transfer data wirelessly, make or answer calls, and more. While the app already permits access to a smartphone's camera for video calls on the phone itself, the new feature under development would enable users to use the camera feed for video calls on their laptops, as per reports. Although the source code doesn't explicitly mention 'Webcam', phrases like «Tap this notification to allow your PC to stream your camera video», «Pause video,» «Resume video,» «Switch to back», and «Switch to front» strongly suggest the inclusion of webcam functionality, reports stated. It's worth noting that the Phone Link app's current capabilities are limited to Samsung's flagship phones, and the new feature might follow suit. However, it's expected that other eligible Android phones, like the OnePlus 11 running on Android 14, could gain access to these features in the future, as per the reports. This development brings Microsoft closer to offering a seamless camera experience between phones and Windows laptops, similar to what Apple provides for iPhones and MacBooks.
