Drew Barrymore is preparing to make a comeback once more. The actor-host has confirmed that the fourth season of her daytime talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, will return on October 16. Initially, Barrymore faced backlash for her decision to resume her show ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ amidst the writers' strike, along with other WGA-covered shows. Critics, including picketers outside her New York City studio, raised objections. In a September 10 Instagram post, Barrymore tried to justify her return without the show's striking writers but later retracted. On September 17, she postponed the show's return until the end of the writers' strike, expressing profound apologies. Following the Writers Guild of America's tentative agreement with the AMPTP studios and streamers, the strike ended on September 26. Now, daytime talk shows, heavily reliant on celebrity guests, are rescheduling their returns, which is good news for networks hungry for fresh content amid the dual Hollywood strikes. The Talk is set to return on October 9, while The Jennifer Hudson Show already made its comeback on October 2. On Wednesday morning, Kelly Clarkson announced the return of her daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, on October 16. The talk show will be filmed at NBC Studios' Studio 6A in New York.

Hollywood strikes, Drew Barrymore has now reversed her decision. The actor-producer and show host said she is pausing The Drew Barrymore Show until the writers' strike is resolved. Drew Barrymore had announced the return of her talk show for Season 4 beginning September 18, 2023. She had apologized to the Writers' Guild of America (WGA), the union behind the writers’ strike in the US, for doing so. She explained in a video on September 15 saying that she needs to keep her show running to pay the crew. But the actor deleted the video the same day, after backlash from her fans and the film industry. Considering her decision was harming the show and her image, Drew Barrymore seems to have reversed her call. Drew Barrymore released a statement on Instagram on September 17, 2023, saying, «I am making the decision to pause the show’s premiere until the strike is over.»

The celebrated talk show host and actress had initially declared that her show's return would align with the strike's rules. However, tensions escalated as the show's writers participated in picket lines outside the New York studio when filming resumed.

Drew Barrymore was taken off the stage during an event in New York City after an audience disruption. The talk show host and actor appeared at the 92nd Street Y as part of the Recanati-Kaplan Talks series to support singer-songwriter and actor Reneé Rapp’s new LP Snow Angel. During their conversation, a man in the crowd walked down the aisle and shouted Barrymore’s name. He identified himself as Chad Michael Busto and said he needed to see her while in New York. Barrymore greeted him and was escorted offstage by Rapp. Security then removed the man from the venue. They returned to the stage a few minutes later and continued the conversation. Barrymore praised Rapp for her quick response and jokingly referred to her as protective. The event proceeded without further interruption. Barrymore interviewed Rapp about her new album and her involvement in various projects. Barrymore left the stage as planned after the event. Last year, a disruptive audience member interrupted a play in New York, and the police were involved in removing them.
