The Bitcoin ETF industry is seeing new headlines hit the market almost every other day. So much so that Franklin Templeton, which is a global asset management company, has even submitted an application for its own spot ETF.

The launch of a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) is a topic of active debate between the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and a number of asset managers, notably the massive investment firm BlackRock. This action may be a crucial turning point in the acceptance of cryptocurrencies in traditional financial markets.

VanEck, a prominent asset management company, has made a significant stride by filing its fifth amended application for a spot Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF). This move, dated December 8, 2023, marks a new chapter in the evolution of cryptocurrency investments.

When interest rates went up and investors turned risk-averse, fewer capital flowed into crypto markets. The collapse of a popular stablecoin and an international exchange exacerbated the situation. And yet, the crypto ecosystem has continued to progress: Scaling up the blockchains and building more applications—in finance and beyond.

As Bitcoin soars to a striking $39,390, up by a significant 1.50% in the last day, the crypto community is abuzz with anticipation. This remarkable surge forms a crucial part of the broader escalation in the total cryptocurrency market cap, which has now eclipsed the $1.5 trillion milestone.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)’s move to start a public comment period for spot Bitcoin (BTC) ETF applications earlier than expected has stirred up optimism around the launch of these products. 

Analysts are now eyeing a potential window for the approval of Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), setting the time frame between January 5 and 10, 2024.

Franklin Templeton Mutual Fund said Janakiraman Rengaraju, currently the deputy CIO & Senior Portfolio Manager, will assume the role of Chief Investment Officer, Emerging Market Equities – India. Janakiraman will take over from Anand Radhakrishnan, CIO, Emerging Market Equities – India, who will leave the firm effective January 12, 2024, to pursue other opportunities, said a press release. In his new role, Janakiraman will work closely with Avinash Satwalekar, President, Franklin Templeton – India to further strengthen the equity franchise in India, supported by a 16-member team of investment managers and experienced analysts. He will continue to be based at the Franklin Templeton offices in Chennai and will report to Sukumar Rajah, Senior Managing Director & Director of Portfolio Management – EME Asian Equity. Janakiraman joined the firm in 2007 and has close to 27 years of experience in investment management. In his 16 years with Franklin Templeton, he has built an excellent track record in managing various funds. He currently manages several equity funds, including Franklin India Prima Fund, Franklin India Smaller Companies Fund and Franklin India Flexi Cap Fund.

Over a dozen asset managers have applied to launch a Bitcoin spot ETF in the United States this year – and Coinbase is poised to serve as custodian for virtually all of them.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has postponed its decisions on spot Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded fund (ETF) applications submitted by Global X and Franklin Templeton. 

The global exchange-traded fund (ETF) provider WisdomTree filed an amended S-1 form spot Bitcoin (BTC) ETF prospectus with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Nov. 16.

Mark Mobius, whose name has been synonymous with investing in developing countries for a third of a century, isn’t planning to slow down even as he steps back from the firm that bears his name. The 87-year-old money manager said he’s busier than ever as he looks to set up a new venture in Dubai. The firm will be “involved in investment,” he said, declining to provide specifics because he said it’s still in the negotiating stage.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is commencing a series of asset tokenization pilots in collaboration with financial services heavyweights.

The initiative is an extension to MAS’ Project Guardian, in which the central bank collaborated with 15 financial institutions to carry out industry pilots on asset tokenisation in fixed income, foreign exchange, and asset management products. The five new pilot projects explore a new set of use cases including listing, distribution, trading, settlement, and asset servicing.
