PM Modi shares rationale behind NDA's 400-paar and BJP's 370 seats target, Jaishankar says ‘not a random number’
Abki baar 400 paar slogan came from people's hearts. “From 2019 to 2024, we had 400 seats with the support of our allies. For example, if a child in your family scored 90 marks, and his competitors only got around 40 marks, you will always encourage your kid to achieve 95 marks next time.

Police seized CCTV DVR from Kejriwal home, planting stories to tarnish party's image: AAP
AAP on Sunday said the Delhi Police has seized the DVR of CCTV cameras installed inside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence in connection with its probe into the "assault" on Swati Maliwal and accused the cops of planting stories to tarnish the party's image ahead of the elections. There was no immediate reaction from the Delhi Police. Maliwal, an AAP Rajya Sabha member, has alleged that Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar assaulted her on May 13 when she had gone to the chief minister's residence to meet him. AAP has rubbished her allegations and claimed that Maliwal is acting at the behest of the BJP to frame Kejriwal. Kumar was arrested on Saturday and produced in a court, which remanded him in five-day police custody.

BJP questions Kejriwal’s silence, alleges he should be directly held responsible for allowing attack on Swati Maliwal
BJP alleged on Friday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should be held directly responsible for the reported attack on AAP Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal and questioned his silence on the issue. The party said instead of taking action against his aide and accused Bibhav Kumar, Kejriwal is moving around with him. In an interaction with the media, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman described the alleged attack on Maliwal as “unbelievable and unacceptable” and wondered how the chief minister could be expected to protect the women of Delhi if his own MP who was also the Delhi Commission for Women chief. “Kejriwal has not spoken a single word till today. No comparison can be made between this case and other assaults on women. It took place in the chief minister’s own house, when the chief minister was present and by a man who is considered the right hand of the chief minister. The Delhi Commission for Women chairperson was attacked. The Delhi CM does not have the confidence to make a statement. He should apologise,” Sitharaman said.

Plan B
Does BJP have a plan B if it fails to cross majority mark in Lok Sabha polls? Here is what Amit Shah says. Watch video
Amit Shah has the answer. “Plan B needs to be made only when there is less than a 60 per cent chances for Plan A to succeed," Shah said in an interview with news agency ANI. In the 543-member Lok Sabha, a party or a coalition needs to win at least majority mark of 272 seats (over 50% of 543) to be in power at the Centre.

Election Track: Engineer turns Baramulla pitch rough for Omar Abdullah, Sajad Lone
Lok Sabha constituency in north Kashmir, which is going to polls in the fifth phase of elections on May 20, will decide the fate of 23 candidates. However, the main contest is between Sajad Lone of People's Conference and Omar Abdullah of National Conference. The contest has become interesting with the entry of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) of Sheikh Abdul Rashid, alias Engineer Rashid. The two-time legislator is contesting from Tihar jail. AIP's campaign rallies are receiving huge response across north Kashmir. It appears that People's Democratic Party candidate Fayaz Mir, who is a former Rajya Sabha member, may have already lost the third spot in the contest. BJP has not fielded any candidate in the three Lok Sabha seats of Kashmir, but is actively canvassing for some parties without directly naming them. J&K Apni Party, led by Altaf Bukhari, has also not fielded any candidate here and is supporting Lone, while Abdullah is the official candidate of the INDIA bloc.

First-time contestant Piyush Goyal sure of winning -- on back of Modi work and wave
Piyush Goyal, contesting a Lok Sabha election for the first time, asserted on Wednesday that he will surely win — but almost entirely because of the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that this election will determine the fate of India. «I recognise that we are all subsumed under Mr Modi's performance… It is gradually dawning on people that this is Modi's election,» Goyal told PTI during a road show — a slow crawling journey atop a decked up pickup truck that wound its way through a ward of Borivali in the Mumbai North constituency. Goyal, a Rajya Sabha member and a veteran manager of many an election campaign, including that of Lal Krishna Advani in 1989, replaced incumbent Gopal Shetty as BJP's candidate for the constituency. The elections are due on May 20. With four days left for campaigning, which ends on the evening of May 18, Goyal is crisscrossing all the assembly segments of the constituency every day in his truck in a set pattern: every morning, a few hundred party workers wearing orange caps, BJP scarves hanging down their shoulders and lotus sticker on their clothing, gather at the starting point of the road show.

PM Modi still lying about Sandeshkhali, but mum on molestation allegation against Governor Bose: Mamata Banerjee
PM Narendra Modi was continuing to «peddle lies» about Sandeshkhali, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday questioned why he was maintaining a stoic silence on the allegations of molestation against Governor CV Ananda Bose and not asking him to resign. Addressing an election rally in North 24 Parganas' Amdanga, which is a part of the Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency, Banerjee said the PM should be ashamed that "BJP's conspiracy" about Sandeshkhali has become public. «The PM is still peddling lies about Sandeshkhali. He should be ashamed as the BJP's conspiracy has now become public,» Banerjee said, apparently referring to a purported video in which a local BJP leader was heard saying that over 70 women had received Rs 2,000 each for taking part in protests against TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh who is accused of sexual assault and land grab. In an earlier clip, a man resembling BJP's Sandeshkhali mandal president Gangadhar Kayal was heard saying that the «staged» protests were done at the behest of Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari who was behind the «whole conspiracy».

Mechanisms in place to track social media, difficult to look at everything: Delhi poll body chief
Delhi poll body has various mechanisms in place to monitor paid news and social media, Chief Electoral Officer P Krishnamurthy said, even as he admitted that it is not plausible to keep a check on online platforms due to the large volumes of content. In an interview with PTI, Krishnamurthy also dismissed allegations about the poll panel being biased and asserted that it provides a "level playing field". Announcing the schedule of the general elections for the 18th Lok Sabha, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar noted the complexity of tackling misinformation in the digital age and said the Election Commission had put in place certain measures to nip misinformation in the bud. Kumar had also said the commission would launch a "Myth vs Reality" project to clear the air around fake news on social media.

"This state has fallen to terrorists, goons": Dilip Ghosh after arms recovery in Sandeshkhali
TMC leader Hafizul Khan, by a joint team of the CBI and the Bomb Squad of the elite National Security Guard (NSG) from the Sarberia area of Sandeshkhali, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said on Saturday the state has turned into a «safe haven for terrorists». Hafizul, it turns out, is an aide of expelled TMC strongman Sheikh Shahjahan, the alleged mastermind of the attack on an ED team in Sandeshkhali while it was raiding his house in connection with the ration 'scam' and a key accused in the 'excesses' on women and land grab in the island. Speaking to media persons on Saturday, Ghosh, the BJP's Lok Sabha nominee from the Purba Bardhaman constituency, said the people would rise against the TMC if it tried to hold on to power despite the state falling to the free-run of 'terrorists' and 'goons'.
