AAP on Sunday said the Delhi Police has seized the DVR of CCTV cameras installed inside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence in connection with its probe into the "assault" on Swati Maliwal and accused the cops of planting stories to tarnish the party's image ahead of the elections. There was no immediate reaction from the Delhi Police. Maliwal, an AAP Rajya Sabha member, has alleged that Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar assaulted her on May 13 when she had gone to the chief minister's residence to meet him. AAP has rubbished her allegations and claimed that Maliwal is acting at the behest of the BJP to frame Kejriwal. Kumar was arrested on Saturday and produced in a court, which remanded him in five-day police custody.

BJP alleged on Friday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should be held directly responsible for the reported attack on AAP Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal and questioned his silence on the issue. The party said instead of taking action against his aide and accused Bibhav Kumar, Kejriwal is moving around with him. In an interaction with the media, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman described the alleged attack on Maliwal as “unbelievable and unacceptable” and wondered how the chief minister could be expected to protect the women of Delhi if his own MP who was also the Delhi Commission for Women chief. “Kejriwal has not spoken a single word till today. No comparison can be made between this case and other assaults on women. It took place in the chief minister’s own house, when the chief minister was present and by a man who is considered the right hand of the chief minister. The Delhi Commission for Women chairperson was attacked. The Delhi CM does not have the confidence to make a statement. He should apologise,” Sitharaman said.

Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party's Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal on Monday alleged that she was assaulted by the personal assistant of DelhiCM Arvind Kejriwal at his official residence following a request by Kejriwal that she quit from the Upper House to pave the way for the party's lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Maliwal, former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, went to the Civil Lines police station and alleged that a close aide of Kejriwal had assaulted her on the chief minister's directions at his official residence. Police said a formal complaint had not yet been received.

PM Narendra Modi was continuing to «peddle lies» about Sandeshkhali, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday questioned why he was maintaining a stoic silence on the allegations of molestation against Governor CV Ananda Bose and not asking him to resign. Addressing an election rally in North 24 Parganas' Amdanga, which is a part of the Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency, Banerjee said the PM should be ashamed that "BJP's conspiracy" about Sandeshkhali has become public. «The PM is still peddling lies about Sandeshkhali. He should be ashamed as the BJP's conspiracy has now become public,» Banerjee said, apparently referring to a purported video in which a local BJP leader was heard saying that over 70 women had received Rs 2,000 each for taking part in protests against TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh who is accused of sexual assault and land grab. In an earlier clip, a man resembling BJP's Sandeshkhali mandal president Gangadhar Kayal was heard saying that the «staged» protests were done at the behest of Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari who was behind the «whole conspiracy».

NCP leader Praful Patel on Friday took oath as member of the Upper House of Parliament in presence of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Patel was declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on February 21. His fresh term as Rajya Sabha member began in April this year. «An immense honor to take the oath as a Rajya Sabha MP today, in the esteemed presence of the honorable Vice President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji,» Patel said in a post on X. The NCP leader described the oath-taking ceremony as a «moment filled with solemnity and commitment to serve the nation.»

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is unlikely to contest the Lok Sabha Elections from the Raebareli seat in Uttar Pradesh, reports said. Priyanka will instead focus on campaigning for the party nationwide, a report in India Today said. Priyanka has not contested any elections so far.

Hafizul, it turns out, is an aide of expelled TMC strongman Sheikh Shahjahan, the alleged mastermind of the attack on an ED team in Sandeshkhali while it was raiding his house in connection with the ration 'scam' and a key accused in the 'excesses' on women and land grab in the island. Speaking to media persons on Saturday, Ghosh, the BJP's Lok Sabha nominee from the Purba Bardhaman constituency, said the people would rise against the TMC if it tried to hold on to power despite the state falling to the free-run of 'terrorists' and 'goons'.
