Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a «comprehensive» statement in both houses of Parliament on the violence in Manipur. He said the situation in the northeast was fragile and the repercussions of the Manipur violence seem to be spilling over to other states too, asserting that it was not good for the country's sensitive border states.

Narendra Modi took a jibe at opposition's INDIA bloc, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hit back hinting that the PM is trying to divert attention and said, ‘We are talking about Manipur, while he is talking about East India Company.’ Addressing the BJP's Parliamentary Party meeting earlier on Tuesday, PM Modi came down heavily on Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A), stating that"From the Opposition's conduct, it seems that they have decided to remain in the Opposition. We have to work in the interest of the public and move forward." Sources close to the development also cited that with opposition parties rallying around the name of their 'INDIA', Modi hit back at them saying it is just an attempt to mislead people.

Opposition Rajya Sabha MPs K Keshava Rao, KR Suresh Reddy, Joginipalli Santosh Kumar, Badugula Lingaiah Yadav, Ranjeet Ranjan, Manoj Jha, Syed Naseer Hussain, Tiruchi Siva, Imran Pratapgadhi have moved Suspension of Business Notice under Rule 267 to discuss the situation prevailing in Manipur. Significantly, a meeting of the members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) has been convened at the office of Congress national president and the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge to chalk out a floor management strategy before the Upper House goes into session. The meeting of the floor leaders will be held at 10 am.

Parliament monsoon session for the fourth day with opposition demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi statement, while government insisting Home minister Amit Shah speaks on it.  Sources close to development said the government has already tried to resolve the issue through discussion. Urging opposition to let the House function smoothly, Shah earlier said, "I urge all the respected members of the opposition that on a very sensitive issue, many members have demanded a discussion by the ruling party and the opposition, I am ready for the discussion.

alliance INDIA will continue their agitation on the Parliament premises through the night against the suspension of AAP leader Sanjay Singh and over their demand that the prime minister open the debate on Manipur in the House. The protest, which began on Monday morning, will see leaders of the INDIA alliance taking turns with a team sitting near the Gandhi statue through the night, senior leaders said, adding the protest will continue on Tuesday as well. The last time an all-night protest was organised by the opposition leaders was in July last year when 20 suspended Rajya Sabha members started a 50-hour relay protest inside the Parliament complex.

Congress on Monday termed as «a desperate bid to manage headlines» Home Minister Amit Shah's assertion that the government was ready for a discussion on Manipur in Parliament. The party said Shah was «totally silent» on the opposition alliance INDIA's demand for a statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue. Shah said he was willing to hold discussion in the Lok Sabha on the situation in Manipur and wondered why the opposition was not ready for it. Speaking briefly in the Lok Sabha, he requested opposition leaders to allow debate, saying it was important for truth to come out before the country on the Manipur issue. Reacting to Shah's remarks, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, «In a desperate bid to manage headlines, the Home Minister today said that the Modi government is ready for a discussion on Manipur in Parliament. He is not doing anybody any special favour. »The perfectly democratic and legitimate demand of the parties comprising INDIA is for a statement by the Prime Minister on the Manipur situation FIRST followed by a discussion. HM is totally silent on this. What is the hesitation in getting PM to speak INSIDE Parliament first?" Ramesh said on Twitter.

Rajya Sabha faced another washout for the third consecutive day on Monday and failed to transact significant business due to adjournment ahead of time as Opposition remained adamant in its demand that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must make a statement in the Parliament on the ethnic strife in Manipur, and over suspension of AAP leader Sanjay Singh. On Monday, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the fourth time till 11 am on Tuesday soon after it reassembled at 3 pm. Earlier, it faced three more adjournments-- first till 12 noon, second till 2 pm and third till 3 pm.

Shashi Tharoor on Monday accused the BJP of «misusing» the tragic suffering of women in the «Manipur horror story» to promote «whataboutery» by citing attacks on women in Opposition-ruled states. The BJP has been raising the incidents of atrocities against women in West Bengal, Rajasthan and Bihar and questioning the «silence» of the opposition, which has termed it as a diversionary tactic to avoid debate on the situation in violence-hit Manipur.

Reacting to the video of two women being stripped, molested and paraded naked on May 4, a day after violence broke out in Manipur, Raut said, «Can't we raise our voice and question the government in the Parliament after women in Manipur are being murdered, raped and paraded naked?» «We want to know what the govt has done and what is the role of the Prime Minister?» he added.
