Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on December 16 to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war. The war also resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh. The day is a high point in Indian history and the country pays tribute to bravery and sacrifice of the armed forces. The war in 1971 between India and Pakistan began on December 3 and lasted 13 days. The war broke out because of the humanitarian crisis in the then East Pakistan. The Pakistani army had launched a campaign against the civilian population of the region. India intervened to support the people in their struggle for independence.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said artificial intelligence figures in discussions at every meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hinted at forging an AI partnership with India. Speaking at Russia's flagship AI conference, he described Modi as a «person who looks to the future».

Indian Navy's Russian-manufactured guided missile frigate INS Tushil was commissioned into the force at Russia's coastal city of Kaliningrad on Monday. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and several other senior Indian officials were present at the commissioning ceremony. INS Tushil is expected to significantly bolster the Indian Navy's operational capability in the Indian Ocean, a region that has witnessed increasing forays by China's PLA Navy in the last few years. The warship has been constructed in Russia as part of an over USD 2.5-billion deal that New Delhi had inked with Moscow in 2016 for four stealth frigates for the Indian Navy.

This included the procurement of Water Jet Fast Attack Crafts, Fast Interceptor Craft, Electronic Warfare Suite, Next Generation Radar Warning Receiver and Advanced Light Helicopters.

DAC granted the approval for the procurement of 31 New Water Jet Fast Attack Crafts (NWJFACs) for the Indian Navy. These are designed to perform the task of low intensity maritime operations, surveillance, patrol, and search and rescue (SAR) operations close to the coast. In addition, these vessels will also play a role in anti-piracy missions, in and around India's island territories.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), DK Sunil, is visiting Russia ahead of defence minister Rajnath Singh's Moscow visit from December 8-10. Sunil is in Russia reportedly for clinching a deal for licensed manufacturing of 240 AL-31FP aero engines for Su-30MKI fighter jets presently in service with the Indian Air Force. The twin-engine Su-30MKI are due for upgrade to enhance their operational lives. Recently, HAL secured a contract worth ₹26,000 crore (about $3.1 billion) for the supply of 240 AL-31FP engines for Su-30MKI fighter jets, which are integral to India's air force fleet.

Rajnath Singh is likely to meet his Chinese counterpart Dong Jun at an event in Laos next week. Following the border patrolling agreement with China that led to disengagement of troops in eastern Ladakh, Singh-Dong meeting would be the first high-level engagement between the two countries. Singh will visit Laos to attend ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM Plus), where he is likely to meet his outgoing US counterpart as well. Sources said while the meeting with Dong has not been finalised yet, the interaction could take place on the sidelines of the two-day event.

Tejas Mark-1A jets for the Indian Air Force (IAF) has been delayed due to issues in the supply of engines by General Electric (GE), giving another blow to its already depleted operational capabilities, TOI reported. The delivery of the jets, initially scheduled for 2024-25, will now see only two to three jets instead of the promised 16, according to TOI sources. Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) faces a delay of around two years as GE has promised to supply the engines by March 2025. The deal for these 83 single-engine jets was signed in February 2021 and amounted to Rs 46,898 crore.

The NDA meeting and CM conclave will be held between 3 pm to 7 pm. The agenda of the meeting includes national development issues. It will also discuss subjects like the observance of Sanvidhan Ka Amrut Mahotsav and the «Year of 50th anniversary of the attempt to murder democracy.
