New Delhi: Taking on opposition parties for making personal attacks against PM Narendra Modi, defence minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said that more the mus they throw, more the lotus will bloom. Speaking at rallies in Tamil Nadu, Singh took on the INDIA bloc, saying that debates on the government's policies are welcome but its intentions cannot be questioned.

Lok Sabha polls are «not fair» with opposition parties being targeted but despite that, the INDIA bloc will get a clear majority in the elections due to the public response to its "five nyay, 25 guarantees", senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said on Saturday. He also said the people of the country will «decisively reject» all attempts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make the elections «unfree and unfair». There is a strong undercurrent of «enough of das saal anyay kaal» (10 years of injustice), the Congress general secretary said. Ramesh also hit out at Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over their recent remarks about the country being a «new India», which strikes inside enemy territory, saying these are «diversionary tactics» aimed at taking the focus away from the Congress' «real narrative» of «paanch nyay, pachees guarantees» and the manifesto.

Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been appointed the convenor of the committee while Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal has been made the co-convenor. The manifesto committe also has one BJP leader each from minority communities — including Sikh, Muslim and Christian.

NEW DELHI : Former chief of the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, Lindy Cameron, is tipped to become the country’s new high commissioner to India. Should her appointment be confirmed, Cameron will be the first woman to serve as the British high commissioner in New Delhi. Amit Shah is likely to visit Tripura for two days from April 7 and will address a rally and hold a roadshow the next day as part of the BJP's campaign for its candidates in the two Lok Sabha seats in the northeastern state, a party leader said on Friday. During his proposed visit, Shah is also expected to chair an organisational meeting of party leaders, he said. «Amit Shah ji, who is scheduled to address a rally in Mizoram on April 7, is likely to arrive in Tripura on the same day. He will hold an organisational meeting, address a rally in Gumati district's Udaipur and a roadshow in Agartala,» BJP state general secretary Amit Rakshit told PTI. He said Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha held a meeting with senior party leaders on Thursday night for Shah's visit to the state.

Border Security Force personnel on Wednesday celebrated Holi at BSF headquarters in Khasa, Punjab. The Khasa campus was drenched in colours and the BSF personnel were seen singing and dancing with their acquaintances. «Today, all units of Amrtisar are here and we are joyfully celebrating Holi. Rajnath Singh said that the people of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) are themselves raising the demand for a merger with India. He expressed the confidence that the people of PoK will merge with India. He made the remarks during the 'AAP ki Adalat' programme on India TV. Asked about Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's recent remarks about Kashmir, Rajnath Singh said, «Can they ever take Kashmir? They should be worried about Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. I had said almost one and a half years ago that there will be no need for us to attack and occupy, because a situation is developing there that people of PoK themselves are demanding merger with India.» On being asked whether the government was making any plan, he responded, «I will not say anything more, I should not. We are not going to attack any country. India has a character of never attacking any country in the world, nor has it occupied an inch of other's territory. But PoK was ours, PoK is ours, and I am confident that PoK will itself merge with India.»

Raksha Mantri Karyalaye informed through a post on its official X handle that owing to the prevailing weather conditions in the world's highest battleground, Singh will celebrate Holi with the armed forces in Leh. «Due to inclement weather conditions in Siachen, there is a change in Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh's tour programme. He will now celebrate Holi with Armed Forces Personnel in Leh,» the statement read.

Rajnath Singh has approved a proposal for the expansion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) with the addition of three lakh cadet vacancies. This decision comes in response to the growing demand for NCC enrolment from educational institutions across India. Since its inception in 1948 with just 20,000 cadets, the NCC will now have a sanctioned strength of 20 lakh cadets, solidifying its position as the world's largest uniformed youth organization. The inclusion of NCC as an elective subject under the National Education Policy 2020 aligns with the government's efforts to empower youth to become future leaders of the nation. The expansion plan aims to evenly distribute vacancies across all States and Union Territories, reducing the waiting list of institutions seeking NCC affiliation. It involves the establishment of four new Group Headquarters and the addition of two new NCC units.

Congress' first list released on Friday includes names of Rahul Gandhi, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, DK Suresh and Shashi Tharoor. Out of the total 39 Congress candidates, 15 were from Kerala, seven from Karnataka, six from Chhattisgarh, four from Telangana, two from Meghalaya and one each from Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim and Lakshwadeep.
