"Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has joined the government of the UAE as Deputy Prime Minister and has been appointed Minister of Defence," Sheikh Mohammed, who is the UAE's prime minister, wrote on X. Sheikh Hamdan, 41, is the second son of Sheikh Mohammed and has held the title of crown prince of Dubai since 2008.

Plans have been on the books for years to move the operations of the airport known as DXB to Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central which had also been delayed by the repercussions of the sheikhdom's 2009 economic crisis. «We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn,» Sheikh Mohammed said in an online statement. «Dubai will be the world's airport, its port, its urban hub and its new global center.»

UAE temple opening LIVE updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi. BAPS represents a socio-spiritual Hindu faith rooted in the Vedas, pioneered by Bhagwan Swaminarayan in the late 18th century and formally established in 1907 by Shastriji Maharaj.The proposal of the Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi came during the first visit of PM Modi to the UAE in 2015 after which the government allocated land for the BAPS temple.

National Election Committee (NEC) today announced the lists of the electoral college members from all emirates for the 2023 Federal National Council (FNC) elections, which features 398,879 members, marking an 18.1 per cent hike over the 2019 lists that included 337,738 Emirati electors. The representation of Emirati women in the electoral college for 2023 has increased by 51 per cent, compared to 49 per cent for men, the NEC said, adding that the electoral college lists have a significant representation of electors in the 21-40 age category (55 per cent), reflecting the crucial role of youth in the UAE's progress.
