Lok Sabha Elections: Dissent over BJP candidates grows in Gujarat
Bharatiya Kanata Party (BJP) is facing some serious resistance against its Lok Sabha candidate in its citadel Gujarat, arguably for the first time in its electoral history. While resistance towards Shobhna Baraiya who replaced Bhikhaji Thakor in Sabarkantha is getting aggressive by days, the Kshatriya community across the state is up in arms against Union Minister Parshottam Rupala who is contesting from Rajkot for his comment allegedly denigrating the community. Baraiya was fielded after controversy erupted over the caste identity of Bhikhaji Thakor, BJP’s initial candidate for Sabarkantha. She, for the records happens to be the wife of Mahendrasinh Baraiya former Congress MLA who joined BJP in August 2022. Thakor’s supporters had observed a bandh in his support in Meghraj town in Aravalli district on Tuesday and the party workers in large numbers had reached the BJP office in Modasa to protest necessitating strong security arrangements.

Surge in student attacks: A degree of safety key deciding factor for students heading to US
higher studies this year are choosing colleges based on the perceived safety of the location amid a recent surge in attacks on Indian students in the US, admission consultants said. Besides institutes and courses, parents who plan to send their ward to the US are asking questions such as which states are safe and which areas have high crime rates even as admission results for the 2024 batch have started coming in from US universities, they told ET. Some parents with daughters are even having second thoughts about the US, said Adarsh Khandelwal, CEO and founder of Collegify. There is widespread concern particularly among parents of students going for undergraduate studies as many of them would be staying away from home for the first time, consultants said. Caution is in the air amid reports of violent incidents involving Indian students, including some fatal ones, in places like Chicago, Boston, and Indiana, among others.

Here's what the Delhi court said as it extended Kejriwal's ED custody till April 1
Enforcement Directorate's (ED) custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till April 1. The court made this decision based on the agency's submission of «sufficient reasons» to allow further custodial interrogation. The ED highlighted the need to confront Kejriwal with collected material and recorded statements. During the court proceedings, the ED mentioned that Kejriwal's responses during his five-day interrogation were «evasive.» The court also took note of the ED's statements regarding the recording of statements from three other relevant persons in the case. «Having considered the submission made before this court and considering the grounds as cited by the investigative agency, there appears to be sufficient reasons to permit further custodial interrogation, particularly keeping in view the submissions that he (Kejriwal) is required to be confronted with the material collected and statements recorded so far in the course of the investigation,» special judge Kaveri Baweja said. Special judge Kaveri Baweja, after considering the ED's submissions, agreed to the extension of Kejriwal's custodial interrogation. The judge noted the necessity of confronting Kejriwal with extracted data from digital devices and other details. Kejriwal, in response, expressed readiness to cooperate with the agency and did not oppose the ED's plea for remand extension.
