CBSE disaffiliates 20 schools for enrolling dummy students; 5 of them in Delhi, 3 in UP
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has disaffiliated 20 schools, including five in Delhi, for enrolling dummy students and ineligible candidates, its secretary Himanshu Gupta said on Friday. The board has also downgraded the affiliation of three schools. «Pursuant to a surprise inspection conducted in CBSE schools across the country to check whether the schools are running according to the provisions and norms contained in the affiliation and examination bye-laws, it was found that some schools were committing various malpractices of presenting dummy students, ineligible candidates and not maintaining records properly,» Gupta said. «After a thorough inquiry, it has been decided to disaffiliate 20 schools and downgrade three schools,» he added.

ASI starts court-ordered survey of disputed Bhojshala complex in MP's Dhar district
Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Friday conducted survey of the controversial Bhojshala/Kamal Maula Mosque complex situated in the tribal-dominated Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh and made preparations for using carbon-dating equipment, officials said here. A 15-member ASI team along with senior local police and district administration officials readied the site for scientific assessments following a Madhya Pradesh High Court directive to conduct a 'scientific survey' within six weeks. The high court, on March 11, directed the ASI to carry out a 'scientific survey' within six weeks of the Bhojshala complex, a medieval-era monument that Hindus believe is a temple of Goddess Vagdevi (Saraswati), while the Muslim community calls it Kamal Maula Mosque. During the first day of the survey, members of the Muslim community gathered to offer Friday prayers amidst tight security arrangements, the officials said.

PM Modi behaving like a tin-pot dictator: Derek O'Brien
Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of behaving like a «tin-pot dictator,» and said the BJP-led Centre was arresting opposition leaders in its desperation to secure win in the upcoming elections. «The Prime Minister is behaving like a tin-pot dictator, arresting opponents, election agents, transferring state government officials… Changing rules in desperation to win seats… Why?» said O'Brien, who is in Delhi for a meeting of opposition INDIA bloc leaders with the Chief Election Commissioner, a day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. INDIA bloc parties are rallying behind Kejriwal, with the TMC making its first appearance with the opposition alliance partners since seat-sharing talks with Congress in West Bengal failed, and it announced going solo in the Lok Sabha polls. «The Director General of Police (DGP) West Bengal was changed thrice in 24 hours… Why wasn't the ED director changed?» the TMC Parliamentary Party leader in Rajya Sabha said.

IPL 2024: Records Virat Kohli can topple during RCB vs CSK clash
Virat Kohli will be taking to the crease for the first time after January 2024 during the season opener of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). His return has the prospect of history books being re-written sending him to the summit of an untouched record. Kohli was last seen taking part in the 3rd T20I match between India and Afghanistan in Bengaluru. After that, he missed the recently concluded five-match Test series against England. On Friday, during the match against Chennai, if Kohli scores six runs, he will become the first Indian in history to score 12,000 runs in T20s. As of now, the former Indian skipper, who has played in 376 T20s scored 11,994 runs.
