Bulls set new records on one-way Dalal Street
equity gauges Friday towered above shrinking benchmarks in export-focused Asian economies to leap to a record, with higher-than-expected economic growth, softer energy prices and subdued US bond yields drawing both overseas and local funds to domestic risk assets. Traders have factored in victories for the BJP in the latest round of state polls and their results, to be announced Sunday, may have a bearing on the short-term directional trend for stocks, although most analysts believe the indices will climb through December. The Nifty gained 134.75 points, or 0.67%, to close at 20,267.90, after an intraday high of 20,291.55. The Sensex climbed 492.75 points, or 0.74%, to close at 67481.19.

Singing to babies may help them learn a new language, claims new study
University of Cambridge and Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, who jointly investigated babies' ability to process phonetic information during their first year for their findings published in the 'Nature Communications' journal. They concluded that parents should speak to their babies using sing-song speech, like nursery rhymes, as soon as possible because babies learn languages from rhythmic information, not phonetic information, in their first months. «Our research shows that the individual sounds of speech are not processed reliably until around seven months, even though most infants can recognise familiar words like 'bottle' by this point,» said Goswami.

Inmate stabbed Derek Chauvin 22 times, charged with attempted murder, prosecutors say
prison stabbing of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd. John Turscak stabbed Chauvin 22 times in the law library at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona, with an improvised knife, federal prosecutors said. Turscak, 52, told correctional officers he would've killed Chauvin had they not responded so quickly, prosecutors said. Turscak later told FBI agents that he'd been thinking about assaulting Chauvin for about a month because he is a high-profile inmate but denied wanting to kill him, prosecutors said. Turscak told the agents that he attacked Chauvin on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, as a symbolic connection to the Black Lives Matter movement and the «Black Hand» symbol associated with the Mexican Mafia gang, prosecutors said. An attorney for Turscak was not listed in court records and Turscak, who has represented himself in numerous court matters from prison, remained in custody on Friday. Chauvin, 47, was sent to FCI Tucson from a maximum-security Minnesota state prison in August 2022 to simultaneously serve a 21-year federal sentence for violating Floyd's civil rights and a 22½-year state sentence for second-degree murder. Chauvin's lawyer, Eric Nelson, had advocated for keeping him out of general population and away from other inmates, anticipating he'd be a target.

US markets surge in November on soft landing hopes; Fed's shifting narratives raise caution
Also Read: US stock market ends higher as Powell raises peak rate hopes; S&P logs highest close of year Could this time be different? Perhaps. While Fed Chair Jerome Powell pushed back Friday on the prospects for interest-rate cuts, the central bank’s historic tightening campaign is seen as game over across markets. At the same time, the risk-on exuberance is working against Powell’s goal of tightening financial conditions, a back-and-forth dynamic that has contributed to the demise of past rallies.
