NEW DELHI : The bankruptcy regulator has amended the rules to speed up debt resolution of companies by reducing litigation and giving greater clarity on the obligations of parties involved in the process. The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) also strengthened the role of professionals administering bankrupt businesses by codifying the process by which the records of a company’s assets can be taken over from any person, not just promoters and managers.

MUMBAI : PSU banks have rallied sharply in the past month, culminating in volumes on the Nifty PSU Bank Index, comprising 12 lenders, hitting a record high of 1.78 billion shares on 18 September. Normally this is a sign of worry, as the index has plunged 20-25% in the near term on previous occasions after volumes peaked. The government bi-annually fixes prices of the locally-produced natural gas — which is converted into CNG for use in automobiles, piped to household kitchens for cooking and used to generate electricity and make fertilisers. Two different formulas govern rates paid for gas produced from legacy or old fields of national oil companies like Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Oil India Ltd (OIL), and for newer fields lying in difficult-to-tap areas, such as deepsea. Rates are fixed on April 1 and October 1 each year.

ITR Filing Due Date Extension News Ay 2023-24: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the due date of furnishing Income Tax Returns in Form ITR-7 for Assessment Year 2023-24 by a month. The due date has been extended from 31.10.2023 to 30.11.2023.

CBI as a witness in a coal scam case has approached the Supreme Court against the Enforcement Directorate's decision naming him as an accused in the linked money laundering case, calling the action of the two federal probe agencies «inherently contradictory». An apex court bench of Justices Aniruddh Bose and Bela M Trivedi has issued notice to the ED on a petition by Goutam Karmakar, who has questioned the anti-money laundering agency's action wondering how could it make him an accused in a predicate offence when he is not facing any investigation by the CBI or other agencies for the schedule offence.

Bharti Airtel's introduction of India's inaugural wireless home Wi-Fi service, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries made a similar announcement during its 46th AGM, stating plans to launch Jio AirFiber on September 19. Ambani explained during the AGM that their extensive optical fiber network connects them to over 200 million locations. The Jio AirFiber devices is aimed at providing last-mile connectivity to many parts of India. As for pricing, while Reliance hasn't disclosed specifics, there is precedent to suggest that consumers can expect rates lower than existing options.

Surya Roshni has fixed 6th October 2023 as the record date for the stock split. The stock split will be in the ratio of 2:1. «The Company has fixed Friday, 6th October, 2023 as the record date, for the purpose of ascertaining the eligibility of shareholders entitled for subdivision of one equity share of face value of Rs 10/- each fully paid up into two equity shares of face value of Rs 5/- each fully paid-up,» Surya Roshni said in a BSE filing. In Monday's trade, the stock ended 1.9% lower at Rs 977.2.
