However, even as her remark threatened to rock the Opposition boat ahead of the Mumbai meeting, which kicks off later on Wednesday and will carry over into Thursday, the AAP leader said INDIA was working to steer the country in a new direction. High inventory not a result of sales slowing down: Shashank Srivastava, Maruti Suzuki
«In fact, August numbers in the industry predicted to be just around the 355,000 mark which could make it the highest ever month also. Last was September 2022, which was 3,55,400 odd vehicles. So, yes, it has been a great run so far,» says Shashank Srivastava, Maruti Suzuki India.Industry channel checks have been indicating that in the month of August, the passenger vehicle demand was actually up 9% and Maruti sales were higher than the industries. What has been your analysis, whether this is a trend which is here to stay?So far this year has gone very well for the auto industry. So, we have seen a record April, highest ever April, the highest ever May, highest ever June, highest ever July, looks like the highest ever August. In fact, August numbers in the industry predicted to be just around the 355,000 mark which could make it the highest ever month also. Last was September 2022, which was 3,55,400 odd vehicles. So, yes, it has been a great run so far. And now we are into the festive season, the beginning in Onam festival in Kerala, that is where the festive season starts, has been pretty good, almost a 25% jump in retails. How do you start investing in a mutual fund?
mutual funds. What documents do I need to start a mutual fund investment? To make your first investment in a mutual fund, you need to be KYC (Know Your Customer) compliant. To do this physically, an investor can fill out a form, attach a photograph, copies of the PAN card and a valid address proof such as Aadhaar, passport, voter identity card or driving licence. This can be submitted along with the first investment form to a registrar or a mutual fund office. To do it digitally one can use some mutual fund websites or distributor platforms which allow Aadhaa-rbased eKYC.What should be the first MF scheme that I should consider?First-time investors should choose a fund scheme keeping their goals, risk-taking ability and time horizon in mind. Typically financial planners feel if they have a time horizon of more than five years, they could opt for equity-oriented funds. However, if they have a time frame of 1-5 years they could use debt or hybrid funds, while for a time frame of less than a year, they can use arbitrage funds or ultrashort-term funds. Ideally, they could opt for a diversified equity mutual fund scheme which could be either a large-cap-oriented or flexicap fund. Conservative investors could also use an aggressive hybrid fund that allocates 65-75% to equity and the rest to fixed income. They could consider staggering their investment by using a systematic investment plan (SIP) as a tool to invest, as this evens out volatility and sharp market movements.

Factories may be leaving China, but trade ties are stronger than they seem
China for computer chips, solar panels and various consumer imports amid growing concern over Beijing's security threats, human rights record and dominance of critical industries. But even as policymakers and corporate executives look for ways to cut ties with China, a growing body of evidence suggests that the world's largest economies remain deeply intertwined as Chinese products make their way to America through other countries. New and forthcoming economic papers call into question whether the United States has actually lessened its reliance on China — and what a recent reshuffling of trade relationships means for the global economy and American consumers. Changes to global manufacturing and supply chains are still unfolding, as both punishing tariffs imposed by the administration of former President Donald Trump and tougher restrictions on the sale of technology to China imposed by the Biden administration play out. The key architect of the latest restrictions — Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo — is meeting with top Chinese officials in Beijing and Shanghai this week, a visit that underscores the challenge facing the United States as it seeks to reduce how much it depends on China at a moment when the countries' economies share so many ties. These reworked trade rules, along with other economic changes, have caused China's share of imports into the United States to fall as the share of imports into the U.S.

Europe's bumper Q2 puts global dividend payouts on track for record year
The figures by fund manager Janus Henderson estimated that 88% of companies globally had either increased their dividends or held them steady in Q2, resulting in $568.1 billion worth of worldwide payouts since the start of the year. The fastest growth came in Europe, where a number of countries such Italy and Spain have introduced or are looking at windfall taxes on bumper profits made by banks and energy firms on the back of rising interest rates and energy prices. Dividends were up nearly 10% to $184.5 billion. That did not including Britain, where the quarterly total dropped to $30.7 billion from last year's $34.9 billion, when oil and gas firms saw a leap in payments after Russia's invasion of Ukraine sent commodity prices surging. This time around, the surge in global interest rates meant banks contributed half the world's dividend growth and drove a quarter of Europe's increase.

Canada detects first case of highly mutated coronavirus variant BA.2.86
Canada has detected its first case of coronavirus infection from the highly mutated BA.2.86 variant of Omicron in a person in British Columbia who had not traveled outside the Pacific province, health officials said on Tuesday. The individual is not hospitalized, and the detection of BA.2.86 virus has not changed the risk to people in British Columbia, the province's top doctor, Bonnie Henry, and Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a joint statement. «It was not unexpected for BA.2.86 to show up in Canada and the province,» they said. "COVID-19 continues to spread globally, and the virus continues to adapt." The BA.2.86 lineage, first detected in Denmark last month, carries more than 35 mutations in key portions of the virus compared with XBB.1.5, the dominant variant through most of 2023.

Russia will not probe Prigozhin plane crash under international rules: Brazil agency
Russia has informed Brazil's aircraft investigation authority that it will not probe the crash of the Brazilian-made Embraer jet that killed mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin under international rules «at the moment», the Brazilian agency told Reuters on Tuesday. Prigozhin, two top lieutenants of his Wagner Group and four bodyguards were among 10 people who died when the Embraer Legacy 600 crashed north of Moscow last week. He died two months to the day after staging a brief mutiny against the Russian defense establishment that posed the biggest challenge to President Vladimir Putin's rule since he rose to power in 1999. Brazil's Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA), in the interests of improving aviation safety, had said it would join a Russian-led investigation if it were invited and the probe held under international rules. Russia's aviation authority was not obligated to say yes to CENIPA, but some former investigators said it should, as the U.S. and other Western governments suspect the Kremlin of being behind the Aug.

Under Armour founder Kevin Plank gave television anchor Stephanie Ruhle a private phone with a special email address to communicate with him, sent her confidential financial information about the sportswear maker and enlisted her help to refute concerns about slumping sales, according to newly released court documents. Plank and Ruhle were questioned by lawyers earlier this year in connection with a shareholder lawsuit, and portions of their depositions and some of their emails were recently unsealed in court. The documents provide new insights into their close ties and her unusual role as his adviser, which The Wall Street Journal first reported in 2019.
