NEW DELHI : Budget carrier SpiceJet on Monday reported a net profit of ₹205 crore in the June quarter, buoyed by continued strong demand for air travel. The Gurugram-based airline had reported a net loss of ₹789 crore a year earlier. Total income fell 8.4% to ₹2,267 crore in the quarter while total expenses decreased by 36% to ₹2,069 crore.

UPS show boost HDFC merger helps boost credit offtake to 19.7 per cent in fortnight ended Jul 28: Report
HDFC Bank has pushed credit offtake by an incremental 500 basis points to 19.7 per cent for the fortnight to July 28, excluding which the system-wide lending growth was only 14.7 per cent on-year, according to a report. The largest pure-play mortgage lender HDFC merged with its own banking subsidiary on July 1 in a record USD 40 billion all stocks merger, creating a banking behemoth with a balance sheet of over Rs 23 lakh crore. Credit offtake continued to show robust growth, increasing by 19.7 per cent on-year to reach Rs 148 lakh crore for the fortnight to July 28.

NEW DELHI : Indian goods exports remained under pressure in July as demand from key markets such as the US, Europe and China remained subdued amid high inflation driven by persistent geopolitical tensions. While services exports continued to report healthy growth, merchandise or goods exports declined to their lowest in nine months, falling 16% to $32.25 billion in July from $38.34 billion in the year earlier, data released by the commerce and industry ministry on Monday showed. Imports during the month also declined by 17% to $52.92 billion from $63.77 billion in the year-ago period, narrowing the trade deficit to $20.67 billion.

NCCF and NAFED to sell tomatoes at a reduced rate of Rs 50 per kilogram from Tuesday in view of the decline in prices in the wholesale markets. Since July, both NCCF and NAFED have been selling tomatoes at a discounted rate on behalf of the consumer affairs ministry in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar to boost domestic availability and contain price rise. Initially, the ministry had asked the two cooperatives to sell tomatoes at a subsidised rate of Rs 90 per kg and later reduced the price to Rs 80 per kg.
