(Reuters) — Demand for power in Texas hit a record high on Wednesday for the second time this week and ninth time this summer as homes and businesses powered their air conditioners to escape a lingering heat wave.

AGL Energy has slumped to an annual loss of $1.26 billion due to previously flagged writedowns on its coal power generator, but its underlying profit staged a recovery in line with the guidance it gave the market in June.

Dianne Feinstein, was hospitalized on Tuesday evening after experiencing a fall at her residence, according to a spokesperson. In a statement, the spokesperson said, “Senator Feinstein briefly went to the hospital yesterday afternoon as a precaution after a minor fall in her home. All of her scans were clear and she returned home.” The initial report came from TMZ, with Feinstein's spokesperson, Adam Russell, later informing the San Francisco Chronicle that her hospital stay was «an hour or two.» Feinstein, the oldest currently serving US senator, plans to retire at the end of her upcoming term. The race for her successor is intensifying, with former House intelligence chair Adam Schiff competing against representatives Katie Porter and Barbara Lee. Growing concerns over Feinstein's health have prompted suggestions for her to step down earlier. She was previously absent from Congress for nearly three months this year due to shingles. Since her return, she has occasionally exhibited signs of frailty and confusion. Feinstein was slated to attend a city cable car celebration on August 2 but missed it due to a developing cough, as reported by the Chronicle. The first female mayor of San Francisco, Feinstein was elected to the US Senate in 1992 and led Democrats on the judiciary committee from 2017 to 2021. Similar issues concerning age and health have arisen for other prominent US politicians. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, aged 81, has experienced several falls, and concerns have been raised about his fitness for office.

BENGALURU : Angel and venture capital investments rebounded in July from the trough seen in April, highlighting a steady recovery in the startup ecosystem amid the prevailing funding winter. Even though the number of deals fell marginally last month from June, the quantum of investment rose, indicating that the worst may be over. Investors struck 71 deals during the month, slightly lower than 73 recorded in June but considerably higher than the 58 deals seen in April when investment activity sank to a nine-year low.
