LONDON : Hours before a star-studded runway show at the Tate Modern museum in May, Gucci’s billionaire owner, François-Henri Pinault, huddled with his newly installed leadership team at its London office to figure out where one of the world’s most iconic brands was headed. With his wife, actress Salma Hayek, preparing for the show at a nearby hotel, Pinault pushed his team to define where Gucci should position itself in the market: higher than it is but not too high. His executives presented plans to pare back the many iterations of the interlocking GG logo and better harmonize the brand’s aesthetics.

catwalk is getting her own exhibition. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London is launching «NAOMI: In Fashion», a celebration of Naomi Campbell's enduring career. The exhibition, which opens in June, will showcase memorable designer outfits worn by Campbell, one of the most recognisable models and Black women in the world. «I'm honoured to be asked by the V&A to share my life in clothes with the world,» Campbell, 53, said in a statement. Sonnet Stanfill, a fashion curator at the museum, called Campbell «one of the most prolific and influential figures in contemporary culture.»

A lot of designers were keen to drain the colour from spring and summer. Christian Dior, Saint Laurent, Victoria Beckham, Mugler and hyped newcomer Peter Do were among the many brands with muted, often monochrome palettes. Some observers were dismayed and also felt there was a lack of innovation.
