US stock market predictions: S&P 500, Nasdaq, Dow Jones investors can expect more volatility in Wall Street. Here's why
Nasdaq investors can expect another week of potential tariff turmoil as Wall Street witnessed the worst week since the onset of the coronavirus crisis five years ago, as per a report. More volatility could be in store ahead of the April 9 deadline Trump set for his reciprocal global tariffs to take effect, after his Wednesday announcement of the levies sent markets into a tailspin, raising fears of a global recession, Reuters reported. The benchmark S&P 500 lodged its biggest weekly drop since March 2020 and the Nasdaq Composite on Friday ended down more than 20 per cent from its December record high, confirming the tech heavy index is in a bear market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished the week down well over 10 per cent from its December record high, marking a correction for the blue-chip index, as per the report. Investors will look for signs the stock market may be close to at least a short-term bottom after Trump's tariffs rocked global asset prices this week, Reuters reported. One sign of gloom: The Cboe Volatility Index, an options-based measure of investor anxiety, registered its highest closing level since April 2020. Bearish sentiment in the American Association of Individual Investors survey reached 61.9 per cent, its highest reading since 2009 during the financial crisis.

Court dismisses Dhananjay Munde's appeal against order to pay maintenance
Mumbai: A sessions court here on Saturday dismissed former Maharashtra minister Dhananjay Munde's appeal against an interim order of a magistrate, directing him to pay maintenance to a woman, who claims to be his first wife. The appeal by Munde, an NCP legislator, was dismissed by additional sessions judge Shaikh Akbar Shaikh Jafar. The detailed order was not available yet. The Nationalist Congress Party leader had claimed in his appeal that he was never married to Karuna Munde, the applicant. The magistrate did not apply his mind and passed an arbitrary order, he had argued. The Bandra magistrate court on February 4 had partly allowed Karuna Munde's plea and directed Dhananjay Munde to pay Rs 1,25,000 per month to her and Rs 75,000 per month to their daughter as interim maintenance. The magistrate had also refused to accept the former state minister's contention that he was not married to the woman.

Trump’s tariff salvo sets off alarm on US recession risks while stock markets bleed
Fitch Ratings. The ratings agency said the new tariffs, announced on what is labelled as “Liberation Day” by the US administration, go far beyond what it had previously expected and are already altering the global economic outlook. The tariff regime now imposes a minimum rate of 10% on all US trade partners, with significantly higher levies on 57 selected countries. As a result, the effective tariff rate (ETR) for EU imports into the US has jumped to about 20%, while the rate on Chinese goods has surged to 64%. These figures compare with Fitch’s earlier March assumptions of 15% for the EU and 35% for China. Other Asian economies have also been hit hard. Vietnam now faces a 46% tariff, Thailand 36%, Taiwan 32%, India 26%, South Korea 25%, Malaysia 24% and Japan 24%. Sector-specific exclusions—such as semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, copper and lumber—may be negotiated separately. Also Read: Recession, not Liberation Day! India, US and world GDP may slump for Trump tariff 'insanity' «We estimate the changes will raise the overall US ETR to about 25%, which would be significantly higher than the 18% we had assumed for 2025 in the March GEO and the highest rate for more than 115 years,» Fitch said.

Amazon submits last-minute bid to buy TikTok, claims report
Amazon.com has put in a last-minute offer to buy short-form video app TikTok, New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the matter. Trump is slated to meet with top White House officials Wednesday to discuss TikTok's fate. People familiar with the talks have outlined a potential deal that could involve bringing on a number of new U.S. investors, including Oracle, the technology giant, and Blackstone, the private equity firm, while sidestepping a formal sale. But it isn't clear that such a structure would satisfy the conditions of the federal law, as per the report. Amazon has some existing ties to TikTok. TikTok video app, which counts 170 million users in the United States, has become a major hub of retail shopping, with influencers recommending products to viewers. While the company has its own e-commerce operation known as TikTok Shop, many influencers encourage people to buy products on Amazon, which gives the influencers a cut of the transactions. It has also provided some technical infrastructure, NYT News Service reported. Amazon had previously tried to make a TikTok clone of sorts, called Inspire, inside its own app. Internally, it was a high-profile initiative, but was widely seen as unsuccessful at attracting shoppers. The company removed it from the app this year, as per the report. Amazon isn't the first retailer to express interest in the app. In 2020, when TikTok was first pressured to sell to U.S. owners, Microsoft and Walmart made a bid for the company.

Aligarh sanitation worker, earning a meager Rs 15,000, gets I-T notice to pay Rs 34 crore — and he’s not the only one
The notices, which target individuals with little to no financial capacity, expose a troubling pattern of fraud involving stolen Aadhaar and PAN card details. Among the most cases reported so far is that of Karan Kumar, a 34-year-old sanitation worker who earns a modest Rs 15,000 per month at the State Bank of India’s Khair branch. On March 29, Karan received an Income Tax notice demanding an outrageous sum of Rs 33.88 crore. This demand, based on transactions carried out using his identity, came as a complete shock. According to Karan, Mahaveer Enterprises, a company dealing in petroleum and steel goods, had been using a forged PAN and Aadhaar card linked to his name for large-scale transactions in Delhi.

Trump wants to run for third term as US President. Can he do it and what does law say? 10-point explainer
Donald Trump has reiterated that he might pursue a third term as US President, adding he is not joking" about wanting to serve in 2028. In an interview with NBC News, Trump said, «There are methods which you could do it. I am not joking.» Later, talking to the reporters, he said that there were demands from the people for him to run for a third term. «I have had more people ask me to have a third term, which in a way is a fourth term because the other election, the 2020 election was totally rigged. I don’t want to talk about a third term now because no matter how you look at it, we’ve got a long time to go,” Trump said, who would be 82 by the end of his potential second term. But the question arises can Trump run for a third term? In January, he told supporters that it would be „the greatest honour of my life to serve not once, but twice or three times or four times“. However, he then said this was a joke for the „fake news media“.

Trump's tariff threat is turning two of the world's biggest foes into friends
“We are willing to work with the Indian side to strengthen practical cooperation in trade and other areas, and to import more Indian products that are well-suited to the Chinese market,” the ambassador to India was quoted as saying by China’s state-run Global Times, in a story posted Monday. Bilateral trade between the neighbors stood at $101.7 billion in 2023-24, according to India’s trade ministry, with India running a significant deficit. India’s main exports include petroleum oil, iron ore, marine products and vegetable oil, amounting to $16.6 billion, according to the government figures. The envoy’s remarks were to mark the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic ties. US President Donald Trump, who is set to roll out reciprocal tariffs Wednesday on countries around the world, has called out China and India for trade practices that he sees as unfair.
