India must manage its green energy demand for a successful climate transition
The energy transition challenge, often presented as a singular issue of greening our energy sources, is far from a one-dimensional problem. As with all public policy situations, the challenge is not amenable to a well-defined problem statement or an elegantly crafted solution. Two recent stories underscored the complexity of the task at hand.

China slams US for adding firms to export control list, vows action
China's Ministry of Commerce said on Sunday it strongly opposed a U.S. decision to add multiple Chinese entities to its export control list over Russia-related issues. The United States on Friday added 105 Russian and Chinese firms to a trade restriction list over their alleged support of the Russian military. The companies — 42 Chinese, 63 Russian and 18 from other countries — were targeted for reasons from sending U.S. electronics to Russian military-related parties to producing thousands of Shahed-136 drones for Russia to use in its invasion of Ukraine.

GIFT Nifty signals a negative start for D-Street. Here's the trading setup for today's session
rate cuts are most likely to start from its September meeting. «Indian markets are expected to follow gains seen in the US stock market, as the likelihood of a „soft landing“ for the global economy increases amid signs of economic softening. A potential rate cut by the Fed would likely boost market sentiment and drive up stock prices,» said Pravesh Gour, Senior Technical Analyst at Swastika Investmart.

Lenovo fires employee for urinating in hotel's lobby, faces $1.5 million lawsuit
Lenovo has reportedly fired a computer salesman from the company for reportedly urinating in a hotel's lobby. Now the employee has sued the company for whopping $1.5 million. Richard Becker, 66, was fired after he urinated in a Times Square hotel lobby due to a bladder condition. Now, he has accused the company of discrimination based on disability, according to a lawsuit filed last Friday in New York State Supreme Court. The incident took place in February, after Becker attended a work-related dinner and returned to his hotel near New York's bustling Times Square. Overcome by an urgent need to relieve himself due to his chronic bladder condition, Becker claims he was forced to use a vestibule located on a separate floor from the main lobby. Although Becker's condition was well-known among his colleagues and managers at Lenovo, a coworker allegedly witnessed the incident and reported him to human resources. The lawsuit suggests that this coworker acted «out of spite and malice,» even though Becker’s actions, according to the filing, «caused no harm to anyone whatsoever.»

Morning Coffee: The bonus cap probably won't survive in Europe, either. A chance to go through some billionaires’ bathrooms
If you want to understand the banking industry over the long term, one of the most important principles to learn is that of the “regulatory pendulum”. Things come and go, every action has an eventual reaction. Deregulation brings speculation, speculation causes crisis, crisis leads to harsh regulation. But after a while, every financial centre realises that they might be able to steal a bit of market share by relaxing the rules a little bit, and the deregulatory cycle begins to turn again.

I would like to trust what CM Vijayan has said: Kerala Guv Arif Khan on Hema Committee report
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Sunday said that he would like to trust Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan when he said that if the victims of sexual abuses in the Malayalam film industry come forward then the process of law will be set in motion. The Governor was reacting to the questions related to the Hema Committee report that revealed sexual abuses in the Malayalam film industry. The Opposition in Kerala has asked for an investigation into the revelations in the report. «I think the chief minister on record said that if they come with specific complaints, the process will be set in motion. He has already said it. I am not saying anything because I do not deal with the subject,» Khan said.
