Tesla warns Trump administration of 'disproportionate impacts' of retaliatory tariffs
In a letter sent on Tuesday (11 March) to US trade representative Jamieson Greer, Tesla said it «appreciates» the chance to consult on trade arrangements but warned that «exporters are inherently exposed to disproportionate impacts when other countries respond to US trade actions». The letter, which was sent unsigned, added that some of the US' past trade actions have led to «immediate reactions by the targeted countries», including increased levies on electric vehicles (EVs) imported into those countries. US equities tentatively recover as EU and Canada threaten to hit back at Trum...

Ahead of IOC election, 350 Olympians urge candidates to make climate action top priority
Saina Nehwal and PR Sreejesh, have written a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) presidential candidates, urging them to make climate action their top priority. As IOC members gather in Costa Navarino, Greece, to vote on the seven candidates next week (March 18-21), the Olympians called for stronger commitments from the IOC to cut carbon emissions, promote sustainability in host cities, set clear guidelines on polluting sponsors and use its platform to advocate for climate action. Climate impacts are «no longer a distant threat, but a current and growing harm to the sports we love and to the countries that make up our Olympic family», the letter said. The signatories include 57 Olympic champions and over 100 Olympic flag bearers. They represent some of the world's most climate-vulnerable nations, including Argentina, Aruba, the Bahamas, Cabo Verde, Colombia, Cook Islands, Eswatini, Fiji, Ghana, India, Kenya, Laos, the Marshall Islands, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Sierra Leone and Zambia. Recognizing that extreme weather events are already disrupting the Summer and Winter Olympics and affecting athlete performance and safety, the letter urges decisive action to ensure the games remain accessible and safe for future generations. Earlier this year, massive wildfires burned large areas of Los Angeles, the host city of the 2028 Olympic Games. The fires killed about 30 people, destroyed thousands of buildings, and forced tens of thousands to flee their homes.

Tesla warns it could face retaliatory tariffs
U.S. automaker Tesla has warned that it and other major American exporters are exposed to retaliatory tariffs that could be leveled in response to President Donald Trump's aggressive use of tariffs. The Tesla comments reflect those of many U.S. businesses concerned by Trump's tariffs, but is notable because it is from Tesla. Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a close ally of Trump, has been leading the White House effort to shrink the size of the federal government. The billionaire heads up the so-called Department of Government Efficiency. The comments were made in a letter to the U.S. Trade Representative's Office and available on the office's web site. Dated Tuesday, it is among hundreds sent by companies to the office about U.S. trade policy. It is not clear who at Tesla wrote the letter, which is unsigned but is on a company letterhead. Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for a comment.

Maharashtra Transport Minister's admission on diverting employees' PF-gratuity funds sparks legislative uproar
Sarnaik's statement triggered an uproar in the legislative council, leading to calls for action against MSRTC's managing director. The controversy unfolded during a discussion initiated by BJP MLC Parinay Fukey, who raised concerns over the mismanagement of PF and gratuity funds. Fukey pointed out that the PF and gratuity payments of MSRTC employees had not been deposited for the past 10 months, and demanded an explanation regarding the use of Rs 2,214 crore from the fund. Fukey questioned, “What has happened to the Rs 2,214 crore? If this had been an industrialist or a private company, a cognizable offence would have been filed.” He emphasized that the state government, as the principal employer, was responsible for ensuring these funds were properly managed and deposited.

Rahul Sharma advises stock accumulation amid market choppiness
«So, we feel that this back and forth action is what is happening in the market as of now. A) there is lack of leadership. We saw metals doing well last week, again follow-up buying is not happening in this week,» says Rahul Sharma, JM Financial Services. What do you make of the market setup? It seems like the market has been gradually recovering but a lot of volatility still persists. Rahul Sharma: So, markets are into that zone where the grind is essentially the base formation that we have spoken of in the past and we feel that it could spend some more time in this broad range with 22,700, 22,800 as the very stiff resistance at the higher side and 22,000, 21,800 being a very strong support equally on the downside.

Study reveals no country on track to achieve all Sustainable Development Goals by 2030
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, which include ending poverty and achieving gender equality, a study has found. However, when grouped according to geographical, cultural, and socioeconomic factors, different countries appear to be making progress on different goals, according to the findings published in the journal PLOS One. Researchers, including those from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, found that, for instance, African and Asian countries-which have the lowest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) — have made low progress on goals such as eradicating poverty, achieving gender equality, and ensuring good health and well-being. However, these countries have made the best progress on climate action and responsible consumption and production, the team said.
